Practicing MD's (not research MD's ok? Get out of my shit!) simply exploit their superlative recognition-association skills to match their recollection/expectations with a patient's apparent symptomology. I say apparent because very many things simply go unobserved and no tests are made to make a determination of their presence.
????
I am sure this REALLY pisses off people with 'warpy' personalities who think md's are godlike. But really, they spend many hours each day playing Jeopardy. Matching a clue with a recollection, sometimes it's right, but sometimes it is really really fucking wrong.
Let's push for evidence based, rather than PROBABILITIES BASED medical decision making. If you, or I, am one of the poor bastards for whom there is no benefit from a treatment or drug, but for whom there is an adverse side effect, we shouldn't simply acquiesce to suffer that because f some authority figure with "MD" behind their name.
Sorry, I have such an urgent need to unload. And FUCKING YES!!!! I know many of you are VERY happy with your MD's, so please don't bother responding with kisses and hugs for your PCP.
