VA running knock-offs of DBT therapy that have new-agey language but none of the peripheral therapeutic support. Sad to say, this yet to be an adult presents herself as much more than she is.
To the members of this forum...
I'm sorry to have gotten into the theatrics thing, I took too much lorazapram while trying to deal with the anxiety of my world. It was a lot more _sleepy_ and a LOT less dramatic than it may have seemed... as a typical BPD I'm frustrated, not suicidal.
So...Lessons learned...
Adult BPD sufferer truth number 1: No other adult in the system really cares how you feel, but, Adult BPD sufferer truth number 2: It's what you say and do and what other adults think you could do that gets agencies really worried. Adult BPD sufferer truth number 3: SCREW mindfulness, it's about "minding yourself"
Setting the new age language of Linehan aside its really pretty straight forward... 1. Monitor yourself, pay attention to how you are responding to the world... 2. Avoid or distract yourself from their presence when your event horizon presents things with high probabilities of bad outcomes--store sharp objects in their proper places (get your housemates to hide them if you must). 3. When stuck in a situation that's bad, diffuse it if you can. Getting your shoulder dislocated by ER security CAN BE FUNNY! Well...to a limit...if you have an exceptional sense of humor... Blame the world if it lets you calm down, take a shower, PUKE! or use other body functions...Linehan has endorsed skills manuals including masterbation! 4. If you can't distract or diffuse it, DUCK AND COVER!!! Linehan talks about radical acceptance. Forget the fancy talk...Emotions are fierce but the intense ones are almost always short lived. Let the fire burn and DON'T RUN, IT MAKES THE FLAMES WORSE, _AND_YOUR RUNNING GIVES YOUR CAREGIVERS HEART PALPATATIONS!!!!!!!! Your hair _WILL_ grow back even if your jeans are ruined.
Seriously, if you just sit on the sofa or on the side of the bed, bummed but do nothing, things will go MUCH smoother. REALLY!!!!
