Celexa Verses Lexapro

I was on Celexa and it work great except the worst sexual side effects I've ever seen.

Been crashing lately on Lamictal so am trying Lexapro. Any feedback would be helpful :toast:

1. One is simply a stereo-isomer of the other...

I'd expect them to be similar in their effectiveness, but then ssri's effectiveness are a crap shoot, none of them work for everyone. Celexa did little to help my depression, which was also true for Prozac. Some folks get good out of the ssri's some don't.

I've read that Lexapro (escitalopram) was marketed as a different drug from celexa (citalopram) just to 'green' the patent. Don't know if that's true, but it sounds like a Pharma trick.

3. 2 days and I'm already getting the sweats

going back to celexa as I was on it about a year ago and it worked great. Except for the numbness in the genital area.

But WTF, I just need something to work right now! Got those sweats from zoloft too.

5. Yikes - I am about to go the opposite direction,

switching from Lexapro to Celexa in about a week.

Purely for insurance purposes. $$$

6. What dosage? The are basically the same drug

I've done both. Started on Celexa then went to Lexapro. They were part of the first family of drug cocktails I was on. Both can mess you up sexually. Cause ED and DE for males. ED drugs are ridiculously priced. I wish I just had ED and DE 'cause it's completely dead down yonder with this new cocktail mixture.

Here's how it was explained to me by my drug pusher psych doc. Lexapro will provide a consistent dosage level. Because Celexa is given as a generic the dosage level can run from 80% of the intended dose to 120%. Celexa is not consistent. Now, that could just be some bullshit that was fed to me. I know they both did about the same thing for me.

The only reason I could see that you would go from Celexa to Lexapro is if the doctor wants you on a higher consistent dose. Just a guess.

7. Right now

I am feeling good about the celexa again. I need to stabilize, and I hope it will do that. I hate sweating!

8. You should see me in the summer

I'll bring a clean T-Shirt to swap out with the sweat drenched one. The sweating really sucks. People will ask me if I fell in the lake or sumtin'. The only plus side is I now have quite a collection of colorful headbands. :P

If Celexa works for you then stick with it. I know, for me, it was like 1/3 the cost of Lexapro.

9. I had some

myofascial release bodywork done yesterday and it helped my anxiety and depression phenomenally!!

Got to do that some more!!

10. I've gone from Lexapro to Celexa before for $$$ reasons...

...simply to stop all my $$$ going to greedy pharmaceutical companies.

That went pretty well. I figured whatever the inactive isomer might be doing to me not having money was worse.

Rotating off Effexor to any other med is :scared: and I've done it twice.

I've been pretty stable on my current meds (knocks on wood.)

11. My cocktail is 60 mg Lexapro, 20 mg Cymbalta

& 5 mg Klonopin. It's been working for me since 2003 - all the way through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding & being fired from Morgan Stanley after 19 years of service. I had a little hiccup because of insurance company changes and had a HUGE depressive, self loathing dip - still trying to come out of it.
