Amitriptylin and frequent urination

I've been on the amitriptylin for about 15 years as it is the only thing that seems to help my fibromyalgia, but the last few years it has been giving me problems with urinary hesitancy or the inability to pee! I had to be catheterized last summer( damn that is a barbaric thing to do to a guy!)because my bladder was filling and I couldn't pee. When I go off the amitriptylin and try to substitute something else I have to pee all the time, once an hour especially at night so I've been a wreck trying things out that might work..............

Any help out there would be appreciated!!!!O8)

I don't have fibromyalgia but I have some familiarity with a number of the medications used to treat it. I Googled and pulled up this site that has an extensive list of medications (each with a link to side effects) and some links to drug costs and other fibromyalgia information.



Now to tell you what I know of the various medications :


Ambien (Zolpidem): A non-benzodiazepine sleep medication.
Carisoprodol (Soma): A muscle relaxant.
Celexa (Citalopram): An SSRI antidepressant.
Clonazepam (Klonopin): A benzodiazepine, anti-anxiety med/anxiolytic. Has muscle relaxant qualities.
Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril): A muscle relaxant.
Cymbalta (Duloxetine): An SSRI antidepressant which also works on somatic pain.
Diazepam (Valium): A benzodiazepine, anti-anxiety med/anxiolytic. Has muscle relaxant qualities.
Halcion (Triazolam): A benzodiazepine, anti-anxiety med/anxiolytic. Has muscle relaxant qualities.
Lorazepam (Ativan): A benzodiazepine, anti-anxiety med/anxiolytic. Has muscle relaxant qualities.
Lunesta (Eszopiclone): A non-benzodiazepine sleep medication.
Mirapex (Pramipexole): A dopamine agonist used to treat Parkinson's disease and also under investigational use for fibromyalgia.
Neurontin (Gabapentin): An anticonvulsant (anti-seizure) drug, also used for bipolar disorder.
Nortriptyline (Aventyl): A tricyclic antidepressant. *This drug is a metabolite of Amitriptyline, so it may have similar side-effects.
Paxil (Paroxetine): An SSRI antidepressant also used for anxiety.
Provigil (Modafinil): A psychostimulant originally used for narcolepsy and sleep apnea. It is now being used experimentally in depression, ADHD, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's and other disorders.
Prozac (Fluoxetine): An SSRI antidepressant also used for Pre-menstrual Dysphoric Disorder.
Sonata (Zaleplon): A non-benzodiazepine sedative hypnotic.
Ultracet (Tramadol/Acetaminophen): A combination of a narcotic-like pain reliever and acetaminophen ("Tylenol").
Ultram (Tramadol): A narcotic-like pain reliever.
Zoloft (Sertraline): An SSRI antidepressant also found useful for migraine prophylaxis and other uses.
