Well the sleep study results are IN..

The tonsillectomy and UPPP..It has CURED!!! MY SLEEP APNEA!! 100%

I don't need the cpap anymore! I breathe normally now,without any help, totally normal, I don't wake up in my sleep more than anyone else does,and my oxygen levels are very good too.No symptoms.

I told my ENT I was on Hycrocodone ,because of my back pain during the last sleep study, and he was amazed my results were that good even on painkillers they sometimes interfere with sleep studies!
And I am beginning to dream again. I am beginning to have a little energy too. my moods seem a little more even..And I am going to bed an hour or so earlier,Dang..I am so happy about this!
Thought I'd let you all know.

I still got the bone spurs in my neck but at least the apnea is gone now .

Interesting 'spiritual'side note about all this,
being nervous the night before I went into surgery , right before I went to sleep,I got my Tarot deck out, asked myself.. "Will the surgery I'm getting done on my throat tomorrow eliminate my sleep apnea?" I drew one card for the answer ..and I got the Tower card!

The Tower in this case to me meant basically the surgery will be a smashing success , it will ruin the sleep apnea problem and totally crash it down to nothing.And it DID! The Tarot was right on! How Cool is that?

1. that is GREAT!!!!!

apnea is so disabling. really rots your brain. so glad the surgery worked. it is a very painful thing to go through as an adult, and often does not help.
my hubby is a different guy now that we have knocked his down to a very low level. he had high frequency, but low severity. between a tonsillectomy, a wedged bed, a snorer's pillow, and those nose strip things, it is almost gone. i used to listen to him struggling to breathe, and it kept me up. now he hardly even snores, and when he does, he only occasionally struggles a little bit.
we are both feeling better, and thinking better. sleep is so god damned important.

2. That's great news!

I'm sure you covered the surgery in previous posts but, was it very painful? I'm having a sleep study next month. I already know I have apnea and snore like a banshee. I don't know if I could ever get used to a cpap machine. Good to know there are other routes. I'm really hoping that someday I can get a good nights sleep and it will help my depression.

5. till you get your study, things you can do-

try those nose strip things. if you have any sinus/congestion problems, take an antihistamine at bedtime. get a wedge for you bed. elevating your head and shoulders really helps. it will take a few nights to get used to it, but once you do, you will wonder how you ever slept on a flat bed. i don't have apnea, but i sleep much better with the wedge.
and those contour foam pillows, or the little round ones, can help also.
other good sleep hygiene measures, like making the room as dark as possible, not sleeping with pets, stuff like that, all add up.
better sleep WILL help your depression. my hubby is a new man.

3. Great to hear from you!

I was wondering yesterday how you've been doing. Did you see the reports relating the rise in ADHD to the fact that tonsillectomies are not routine anymore? It seems that a lot of kids with ADHD who've gotten tonsillectomies for other reasons all of a sudden had their ADHD go away! Turns out that all these particular kids needed was a good night's sleep. We spend a third of our lives sleeping, yet we know so little about why we need to sleep and dream.

4. tonsillectomies don't always fix apnea

the problem is farther down the throat, but they can help. i am not surprised, tho, at a connection between sleep and adhd.
my hubbies apnea had him ready to jump off a bridge or something. i tried to tell a doc that he saw that it was an emergency that he be tested and treated. that he really was losing his mind. when she wouldn't listen, i asked why the cia understands so much more about sleep than the ama.

sleep deprivation is useful to thugs as a torture device, that's why, and sleep deprivation can make you go psychotic if you stay awake too many days in a row.Sleep deprivation breaks you down.That's why the CIA knows what the AMA don't.
