An outstanding episode of Monk:
I don't usually watch Monk, so this episode was new to me. It ran at 7PM EST January 1 as part of the USA Monk marathon. The main plot involved a thief who shot the captain to cover another crime. What I found outstanding was the sub-plot about Monk's illness and his attempt to treat it with a new drug. The opening scene with the psychiatrist was the best depiction of severe depression I've ever seen. It was followed by Monk's soliloquy about how he feared to change but also feared not changing. Once he tried the drug, it flipped him into a manic episode that he clearly enjoyed despite all the damage it was doing to him. All in all, it was an excellent depiction of what we go through. I always thought Monk's OCD was a story telling gimmick, but if it gets people watching, I'm all for it.

1. did you ever see the original cracker? on a&e?
it was a great series. the network version boiled all the meat off of it. i watch very, very little tv. but i used to schedule my day around that show. it had robbie coltrane (the big guy who played haggard in the harry potter movies) he was a shrink that profiles serial killers for the cops, but he was also personlly out of control. addicted to gambling and drinking. a real incredible complicated character. when the network redid it, they gave him a loving wife to hold him together. in the orignal, he was married to a real person. at first.
really looked at the dynamic of humans trying to understand humans, ya know.

oooo. i just googled this and found out you can get it on dvd. the whole 3 seasons for $110. i am so tempted.

2. I think that show would make me very uncomfortable...
I haven't ever watched it. Basically I only watch what my family watches. I suppose if they wanted to watch crazy people they could watch me. My last med change has been sort of interesting, and in a good way.

:silly:
