but now what to do, dear? If he doesn't call you for help, will you try to step in?

6. Well, I am stepping in -- in the sense that I'm mobilizing his
adult friends on his behalf.

If Doug wanted to talk to me, he would call, so I respect his decision not to do that.

But, at the same time, I need to know that other people are aware of his situation and can make themselves available to him.

This is very hard. But, life is life.
