Do you play classical music? What instruments? Vocal?
I have my undergrad degree in music with an emphasis in musicology/history. But I ended up with that only after medical conditions made it impossible to get my performance degree on the viola. I also play a pretty decent piano and french horn.

When I was playing my viola professionally I primarily did string chamber music but I occasionally played in a full orchestra. I miss playing but it just isn't feasible any more. :-(

1. I've sung in choirs since I was six years old.
and I'm currently in a high-powered cathedral choir.

I've also studied piano. violin, and recorder, but I was always too fidgety to practice, so I never got behind mediocrity

2. I just sing in church choir now
I used to belong to the local symphony choir, but when kids came along I couldn't really spare the time. I didn't like the new choir master, either. I don't miss it; what I do miss is the early music ensemble I belonged to in university.

I played piano well enough to graduate (in musicology), and I still plink around from time to time.

I do MIDI sequencing on the computer, but I'm not sure that qualifies as playing an instrument.

3. Wind player, no wonder I'm full of hot air!
I can play most of the wind instruments but clarinet family is what I play most of the time. About to venture into strings. No music major in college, though I dabble independently into theory and "math behind the music"...and playing around with my newer toy Finale!

4. I play the flute.....purely for my own pleasure.
Afraid it wouldn't provide much pleasure to anyone else.

6. That's freakin' awesome!
I always wanted to learn to play organ. It's a gorgeous instrument. Unfortunately, not that portable-- kinda hard to get practice time in. :-)

7. I think of organists
everytime I get tired of schlepping around 3 clarinets. It is so nice not to have to travel and schedule time to practice.

8. LOL I used to sit next to a couple at the opera whose daughter..
was studying both harp & piano, but planning on specializing in one of the instruments. Her father said he was trying to influence her towards the piano after a few years of carting around a harp for her.

There's a man in my building who plays the classical bass professionally. It's always amusing to run into him and his 'date' in the elevator.

9. My youngest
is a Jazz/Composition major who plays the bass, he had to be certain when he got a car his 'date' would fit in it. My oldest is a Jazz/Percussion major, same thing. I suppose I should have warned them but the instruments were so suited to them I just kept my mouth shut.

13. I sang opera professionally for about 15 years...
gave it up for security... I've also played piano all my life, and played trumpet for eight years in school. I've recently taken up the guitar... much easier to carry with you than a piano. :)

15. Piano
Hi

I took 10 years of classical piano lessons as well as 2 years of organ lessons when I was a youngster. When I was young, of course, I wanted to learn and play more contemporary music but my piano teacher believed that if you learned the classics (and the discipline) you could play anything you wanted. That was the truth. After learning the discipline (and love for) of the classics, everything else came easily. I don't know what I would have done without this fundamental training and discipline.

Best regards,

UiFL

:hi:

You are so right about learning the classics first! I was taught the same way myself!

17. Piano
I have a master of music degree in piano performance. My parents were duo-pianists and my Dad was a professor of music. I do a little accompanying here and there, but mostly just teach.

19. I was in my university's "Madrigal Choir".
I'm sort of pre-classical :D . There's nothing like a small group of voices singing a cappela - I loved it. Sure wish I was as confident at sight reading as I was 25 years ago...

20. Piano and low brass

Piano since I was 5 or 6, then trombone since 11. Loved the baritone too but haven't played it in years so can imagine I'm quite rusty.
