I love Barber and Nadia! I saw her in concert several years ago performing the Brahams with the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center. She is one of my absolute favorites for her unabashed passion.

...I prefer Stern or Shaham in this piece.
When my father died last August, he specified that the one "memorial" he wanted was for those closest to him to gather and listen in silence to the Shaham recording of the first movement of that work.

I love this piece. The first movement is moving, the second movement is wonderful, the third is a lot of fun.
I love the way Barber mixes the tones of the orchestra. I also like how he subtly uses dissonance - he has the solist jump over long distances so that the ear can't follow it as well and thus the ear doesn't hear as much dissonance.
