Interesting report on Twin Cities radio stations

Minnesota Public Radio has three services: KNOW, the news and talk station, KSJN, the classical music station, and KCMP ("The Current") for non-commercial pop with an emphasis on local music.

Guess which of the three is gaining listeners while the other two are losing them.

The classical station. In the past year, its Arbitron rating went from 2.9 to 3.7.

Meanwhile, the news station fell from 5.4 to 4.6, and "The Current," which was supposed to attract a newer, younger set of listeners (and which was created by buying and reformatting St. Olaf College's former classical station) is limping along at 1.4, down from 2.2 last year.

If the loss of the St. Olaf station weren't so sad, I'd be tempted to gloat.

1. My local PBS station carries programming from Minnesota Public Radio Classical 24
In fact my local PBS station has the call letters KPBS, 89.5 FM in San Diego.

They have news and affairs during the day and classical music at night, from 7 PM to 4AM.

They start with the program Performance Today and then carry music from Minnesota Public Radio Classical 24.

At present, most of the time I hear the announcers Ward Jacobson and Scott Blankenship, and sometimes Bob Christiansen. In the past I frequently heard Valerie Kahler, Jeff Esworthy and Ted Askew.
