With shipping to the US it's about $30 so I decided to do that instead of waiting for the US release next month.

Just a little heads up for others waiting on this book. :)

1. Here's a bit of trivia for ASoIaF fans...
...from the 1998 Legends 2 anthology, containing Martin's marvelous prequel, The Hedge Knight. Working titles apparently change, for in that year the projected four-volume series was eventually to consist of:

A Game of Thrones (1996)
A Clash of Kings (1998)
A Dance With Dragons (forthcoming)
The Winds of Winter (forthcoming)

Now, of course, Martin says that the completed opus will "probably require seven books".

2. And the RW (the bad thing in book 3) originally was to occur in AGOT.
Paris has said she expects 7 books all along though, which makes sense what with the significance of the number 7 in the seven kingdoms.

BTW, have you seen the Hedge Knight graphic novel? It's rather well done, I think.

3. The HK graphic novel was decent...
...as far as comics go, but wasn't nearly as richly detailed or as triumphantly uplifting as the original short novel. I can't praise the previous work highly enough.

11. 3 books, 4 books, and now 7?
Man, if this guy wasn't a liberal, I'd be throwing my hands up in frustration. I think I started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series back in the 80s and have given up on that one... and, with the way Martin writes, I may be retired by the time book 7 comes out (I'm 38)

12. Yeah, but the WOT sucks.
He can write 12 books, as long as they're all good and I never read the phrase "Sansa tugged at her braids."

13. LOL
The first 3 1/2 books of Wheel of Time were pretty good... then, it started sucking.

Granted, even the best parts of WoT are not as good as Martin's stuff.

4. I got it today.
I'm going to put my Rabbit With Big Pointy Teeth slippers on (since they arrived in today's mail too,) make a mug of soy mint cocoa, put my feet up and find out who dies in this one. :D

I really hope Jaime offs Cersei- does that make me a bad woman?

14. That's a bit too neat for GRRM
a revenge plotline like that is a bit of a fantasy cliche.

15. true, he is more subtle than that. The list of those who would
want Circe and Jaime both dead is quite long, and surprises abound in his books.

10. well I can be jealous, but I will be done with my re read of
"Storm of Swords" by the end of the month and can just jump into the new book as soon as I can get my hands on it.

I have a couple of small books that will tide me over if I have any down time. I am about 1/2 way through vol 3, but there are days when I only get one chapter read, so I think my timing is OK.

This has been a long wait, and I sure hope it doesn't take 3 years for #5 to be completed. Seems to me he has a good start on it since it was culled out of volume 4. Hope that is the case, anyway.
