What are some recent examples of HPL influences?
Mouth of Madness is an example.

1. Ooh! Fun question!
I didn't care for Mouth of Madness, but HPL's influence is undeniable.

Here are a few others, IMO:

Evil Dead et al -- 'nuff said
Deep Rising -- the monster at the end is, to my eye, clearly Cthulhoid
Hellboy -- the big monster looks like a Cthonian

Otherwise, I'm drawing a blank. I'll follow up tomorrow if I can.

4. A few more, sort of
In the climactic scene of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Ursula's rampage--complete with betentacled lower body, is reminiscent of Cthulhu.

And in the forthcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Davy Jones sports a squid-like beard of tentacles.

Heck, while I'm at it, let's add ol' Squid-Head himself from Return of the Jedi.

Visually, at least, these characters seem inspired either by Lovecraft's imagery or else by the same images that inspired Lovecraft.

6. Hellboy the comic draws heavily on Lovecraft
Of course, there was also the recent Call of Cthulu video game for xbox, which was excellent but ultimately too hard for me to complete.

I'd argue there's an element of Lovecraft in the movie Alien. Giger at least seems to operate in a vein that has parallels to HPL.

10. Chaosium's "Call of Cthulhu" game had a brief Holmes crossover
It was, IIRC, part of the Cthulhul By Gaslight supplement, which was probably about 20 years ago. It wasn't a big Holmes-vs-Cthulhu adventure, but Moriarity made an appearance. The way the game's authors handled him was, I thought, a very satisfying treatment.
