Neville Longbottom

OK....here's my theory.

Neville saw his parents being tortured into insanity, and someone -- perhaps an Auror, or the formidable Gran -- obliviated him one too many times. That's why he can't remember shit anymore.

Thoughts?

1. At first I wondered whether Neville

was adopted by the Longbottoms. But then he looks like his mom, but no words about the dad - except he was a powerful wizard...

He's getting better as he gets older and maybe there will be a great wizard duel between Neville and Snape. No potions though - Neville's helpless without Hermione.

2. On HP fanfic

Storylines often use the idea that Neville had been obliviated by a third-class auror: Gilderoy Lockhart.

...but I don't think Gilderoy could have gotten into the Auror corps. They only take the best of the best and are highly trained, but I guess he could have snuck in somehow- strranger things have happened. He is absolutely useless except for the obliviate spell. I do think it possible that Neville suffers from a powerful memory charm or possibly multiple applications of obliviate - like Bertha Jorkins.

3. I think he's blocked... he's trying too hard, and so he can't.

It probably doesn't help that he's surrounded by so many highly effective people.

Though in 5, he definitely started coming into his own.

4. Seriously revising my thoughts on Neville.

In 5 his Father's Wand is broken in half. Wands and wizards choose each other and Neville's Gran chose his for him. Many possibilities with a new wand. part of the reasoning ( in my head) why Neville's blocked - look at the legacy of that wand.

In 5, the prophecy is open to interpretation. The second part of the prophecy with Voldemort does't mean the third part of the prophecy is not Neville. In other words Voldy & Harry duel, battle, whatever - it's Neville who ends up killing Voldemort.

And also observe that he may have very powerful abilities that are now being occluded. When he gets mature enough to handle the memories, that occlusion could be gone.
