What's the deal with Mrs. Norris??
I mean, she can't possibly be just a cat... animagus maybe? But if so, who? Any other ideas??

2. My theories
A: An animagus who somehow got stuck in her feline form, perhaps due to some spell or potion.

B: Someone who's had to go into hiding, and thus must remain in the animagi form in public.

How much of a geek am I that I've thought of this?

3. Hello fellow Potter fan! You are amongst friends or fellow geeks ; )
Has Crookshanks had any noticeable reaction to Mrs. Norris? I can't find any citations to that fact - but Mrs. Norris is an odd cat or an animagus...

4. she could be part kneazle
This very intelligent cat-like creature can detect unsavory or suspicious persons very well and will react badly to them. However, if a kneazle takes a liking to a witch or wizard, it makes an excellent pet. The kneazle has spotted fur, large ears, and a lion-like tail (FB). Crookshanks is part kneazle

5. My theory is
that she has lived in Hogwarts for so long that some magic has sort of leaked into her, making her more-than-usual-for-a-cat intelligent. Or maybe some event happened (lapping up a strange Potion?) whence she emerged more intelligent.

6. Good theories, all.. and now for the next question!
Can she see through invisibility cloaks? The books certainly suggest she may be able to.

7. I suspect she can
Actually there's a pretty strong folk tradition that animals are able to see things that are invisible to humans. Even if she's only an ordinary cat, it wouldn't throw the Rowling universe out of whack if she were the exception to the "invisibility" spell.

(I can't help thinking of the cloak of invisibility used in "Erik the Viking" -- a handy face-saving measure for the princess and her dad!)

9. mrs. norris sees, smells or senses people under the cloak.
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 11:17 AM by Pithy Cherub
maybe a combo of all 3. Can mrs. norris be under the imperious curse?
The cat was petrified and revived by the same method, mandrake juice...
Just wondering

10. There seems to be something about cats & squibs
Remember that Filch is a squib & so was that batty lady on Privit Drive. Remember how she's a cat person also?

12. Well, I wasn't trying to say EVERY cat person is a squib
After all, I'm a cat person also, and unfortunately, not a squib, unless my family has been really, really sneaky!!
