Oregon Dunes
the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw/recreation/tripplanning/oregondunes/index.shtml is worth a trip (is a trip) for those who can get there. The area north of Florence tends more toward dune buggies while the area to the south is more protected, and most (all?) of these were in the southern half.

1. Wow these are all just gorgeous.
I love them all though the second and fourth one barely edge out the others as favs. Though if I look at them for a long while the fav is subject to change, and change again.

2. Thanks. Ma nature is quite the artist. and I've enjoyed the chance
to document a small fraction of her gifts. Your photos in this thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x12751 were amazing - something way beyond my abilities. Glad you enjoyed these. I think #1 and #5 are my favorites at this moment, but I like them all enough to think they are worth sharing.

3. Nice shots.
I especially liked the color in the second picture, and the last picture is kind of fun.

We used to live near some big sand dunes when I was a kid, and we'd go play there regularly. It was always fun to go run and leap off of one, and tumble all the way down the other side.

4. Beautiful as always, Cons...
We went by that park three years ago when we made a west coast trip, but didn't do much exploring there. I think the Oregon coastline is really spectacular. Having the camera gear I have now, I won't miss the opportunity next time we're down that way.

5. Not sure why, but the 1st two are very engaging
Maybe it's the difference in textures/colors between the sand and water. Or maybe I'm just thinkin' too much. Think I'll just sit back and enjoy them all.

8. The dark color and the texture of the sand
were due to a recent rain, and the wind created the ripples in the water in the first two. The sun, being low, cast a long shadow and really emphasized the sand texture, and a generally overcast sky kept the overall lighting of the scene from becoming too contrasty. The pool height varies with the tides, yielding the rings and the darker color of the sand around it.

Coming across this scene was one of those "Ooh! Ooh" moments. Stalking the wild landscape has its reward in just being there, but there are some special moments as well.

9. Incredible!
I think the 1st, 2nd, and 6th are my favs. The natural beauty seems so ... well, natural!

This is definitely going on my list of places to go out west. How's the weather there in the winter? It looks warm enough in the photos, but I don't know when they were taken.
