1. Nice...

I like the depth of field on the violet. Usually when I try to take pictures of mine, the flowers close up look great, but the ones in back are out of focus, which I guess is okay, but I like the way yours are all focused. That's an aperture thing, right?

2. The smaller the aperature,

the greater the depth of field. Also has to do with type of lens. Macros have a very shallow depth of field.

I'm just getting into photography. I have a nice digital camera with lots of great pre-set modes. I used the 'macro' setting for both of these photos.

I wish I had a better idea what I was doing. :)

3. Okay, LeftCoast, the question begs to be asked...

What lens did you shoot that top photo with, and what were your settings?

5. I take photos with a Nikon CoolPix 4300

It's a digital camera. No special lenses. I've been very happy with most of the photos I've taken with it.

6. Both pics are beautiful.

I can't pick a favorite. They both have a lot going for them. The more I look at the drosera slackii the more I see too. You have some very interesting plants.

That is a pretty good depth of field with the large aperture opening.

7. the cp4300

is a macro champ. It is like it was what the camera was designed for.

The 5400 is a wide angle specialist. I like Nikon's approach.
