For Fun--AWESOME glass art sculpture Nassau/Bahamas

4. The beauty of Dale Chihuly 's glass sculptures is challenging ...

... even to the eye and to the mind - nevermind the camera. I've seen some of his exhibits, where the placement and lighting were also under his control and it staggered me. (It was one of the benefits of living in Washington State for five years.) I'd never thought mere glass could have so many different perspectives and moods. At different angles, each sculpture takes on a subtly different look and feel. I wouldn't have believed it without seeing it for myself ... and had to go again and again just to confirm that it wasn't my own transient imagination. Just the subtle and extraordinary range of colors he's able to create is awesome. Each sculpture is a seemingly dynamic 3-dimensional work of art, only hinted at in two dimensions.

When I lived in western New York State, I repeatedly visited the Steuben Glass Works at Corning in Corning. I was fascinated by it - tours afforded an opportunity to watch the glass-blowing process. After that, Chihuly blew me away. I wish I'd had a chance to watch the process at Chihuly, too. As far as I know, that's not something offered to the public.

5. What I find astoundingly curious about Chihuly 's glass sculptures

and any other large glass sculpture, is how these pieces are moved from place to place for exhibition. It really must be quite the undertakeing. I own quite a few oil painting museum pieces (courtesy of my grandmother's love of fine art collecting), and I know that to ship some of these, should I ever place them at auction, would require aome very intense and structured packing. I can't even begin to imagine what it takes to move these mammoth glass art pieces.
