It was a dark and stormy night....
....well, not really night, but you get the picture.
It was a dark and rainy afternoon.

1/30 F9 ISO 400

I went looking for someplace to try out a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF.
This place looked perfect, and it was out of the rain.

1/160 F5.6

I locked the lens down to 1.8 to have some fun.
Lots of other photographers were trying to stay dry today.
Look at the size of the lens on that......nevermind.

1/320 F1.8

Stealth photo....through the bushes...love that depth of field.
It really was pretty dark in there. This lens is fun.

1/320 F1.8

No tripods allowed today, so everything was handheld.
The flowers were beautiful.

1/180 F1.8

1/160 F1.8

1/100 F1.8

1/180 F1.8

1/200 F1.8

These are from a different wing. I set the camera on AUTO.

1/80 F4.5

I love this one!

1/30 F2.8
I wish I had left the setting at F1.8

The next "Tripod & Easel Day" is April 23rd. I'll be there early and bring my lunch.

I love this lens. It took a little more work to frame the pictures than I'm accustomed to,
but was worth the effort for the F1.8
I want something even closer....like 30mm.

1. Those are excellent !!!!
Damn. You're on a fast track learning curve. Love the great use of the DOF with f/1.8.

I love watching other people take snaps... interesting how people will take a different approach to snappin' their subject(s).

They have a "Photo Day"??? (no tripods) Do you belong to a group or sumtin' or is this a general open to the public photog thing?

I'd like to get the 35mm f/1.4. "They" say that the eye sees in 50mm (for film) but with the digital crop this means that a 35mm would be more of a "normal" lens. But it's pricey and I need to sell my 100mm macro and earn a few more silver dollars before I can get it.

Again.... awesome work. You're mastering you new camera very quickly.

2. These are from the Conservatory in St Paul.
The general rule is "No Tripods", but they give photogs and artists 1 day per month for tripods and easels.

I think all photographers are voyers. I like watching people in general.
The woman in pic 3 had an interesting style. It resembled TaiChi. She was absolutely in the zone, oblivious to everything except her camera and subject. She moved slowly, fluidly, and deliberately.... weaving gently through the plants and flowers in slow motion, totally absorbed. No wasted motion, no take backs or do overs. Fascinating.

Sigma has a 30MM AF 1.4 that is within range.

Thanks for the strokes.

4. Nice! I like the man behind the bush there.
I like the framing you did with the bush out of focus. Makes him more interesting...like he has some good stories to tell.
