Hi all! Thanks for your tips on taking action shots. Unfortunately, I didn't really need them, because there wasn't much action. It had snowed yesterday, so they were not digging any fire lines because it was too slippery on the slopes, and we are under a high fire danger, so they couldn't really burn anything. This was more a communications exercise. I still got a lot of great photos, though! I have not edited or cropped them yet, so these were straight out of my camera. I was using a UV filter on it, and was using tripod for some of the shots. Sorry about the sizes, haven't resized them down yet. I'll probably be working all day tomorrow on editing and resizing.
It was very snowy and muddy. I fell twice going down a steep, muddy road. My camera was not damaged, thank goodness.
One of the Gold Hill Firefighters.
Trudging down the hill after going in to assess the initial "fire".
I had to take a picture of this really cute, really young firefighter.
They unrolled and rolled a lot of hose, but didn't do a lot of spraying.
Foam coming out of the tanker truck.
Finally! I was running around like mad trying to get a spray shot. This is the only good one I got. They were just spraying around the houses, not on them.
This firefighter actually got hurt. I don't know what happened, but I think it wasn't anything serious.
In the exercise, this firetruck was burned out.
They were using our little internet cafe/general store to download weather reports and maps.
My dog had to get into the act. He followed me around all morning. The exercise lasted four hours.
All the fire departments in this area are volunteer. Loved this older guy.
These guys are with Gold Hill Fire. They were taking a break after a scenario.
