Chicago trip

I went to Chicago last weekend. In spite of my emotional angst, I managed to take some photos.

We stopped in a local market where I took this shot of roses and oranges.


Architecture shots were on my mind because I had just finished hosting that contest.

I loved the art on this ad. The people walking by were just happy coincidence, but
I think they add a lot to the shot. I wish I could figure out how to use this as my juxtaposition shot. :shrug:

Being so upset, usedtobesick knew I needed some chocolate therapy.

We walked by a pool hall on the way back to the car. This is the front window.


After we walked downtown a bit, we went to Navy Pier. More architecture shots!

There's a stained glass museum inside Navy pier. I think these were my two favorite pieces.

Pop Art (wish I could remember this artist's name)


These panels depicting winter and spring are two of a four-season series.
This image is a composite I made, and it's out of sequence from the original panels.
What can I say? I didn't like summer and fall panels.
(And again, I didn't take note of the artist's name. :()

1. The two ferris wheel shots

are excellent compositions, in my view. It is the kind of "location" where a million mundane pics can be taken, but catching the reflections and the framing in the second take these images into the realm of art. The river walk, sculpture and lighthouse pics show the same talent, by putting the main subject off center and giving the context, instead of a simple straight on shot. And of course, the last one! The framing again makes the image, although you and usedtobesick alone would have been quite nice as a portrait, by adding the place you manage to turn all of the Chicago waterfront into a romantic locale.

(Don't sweat the credentialing turn-down. Those things tend to be a bit heavy on measurable irrelevancies. Not completely irrelevant, I suppose. Some parishioner could be severely traumatized by discovering that their pastor got some date wrong -- perhaps, maybe. But easily measurable for sure.)

For the comments and the nice bit of encouragement. I'm over it now, recognizing that living in a tent in a disaster zone might be the ideal atmosphere to prepare to go before a professional board. :eyes:

As for the photo of me & usedtobesick, this set-up gave him terrifying visions of me being my own wedding photographer whenever we tie the knot. :yoiks:

6. I like that shot

I was wondering someone else had taken it because the composition is really nice, and sometimes it hard to get the composition right when you do those type of shots.

7. I made my own tripod

by balancing my camera on this wall.



Used my camera strap to bring the lens up. Positioned usedtobesick in the view finder, put it on timer, pressed the button, ran into the shot demanding usdetobesick look at me lovingly. :D
