So... I got accepted directly to the Photo program at Art Inst. of Boston
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 07:46 PM by LeftPeopleFinishFirs
Not sure if I'm going there yet (waiting to hear back from my first choice BU, as well as NYU and GWU), but I thought this would be a cool thing to share. I got into an art school, which is neat. Out of 700 applicants, only 62 are accepted directly to the Photo program :)

I'm not too sure I want to go to an art school anyway, but it's nice to know I could if I wanted to. I've also got acceptances to RIT's Photojournalism Department... and to Northeastern for journalism. I don't really want to be in Rochester though. Decisions, decisions!

Did any of you go to art school or for photo?

1. Congratulations Maggie...
I'm trying to get back to school myself after years out. I want to art school (Mass. College of Art in Boston) tho I majored in painting, I did take several photography courses. There was another Photo school in MA that intheflow recommended to me, I might still have the link somewhere if you're interested.

5. Kick ass!
I wish I had gone to art school sometimes.

Good luck with whatever choice you make - it's great that you're pursuing something you really love. *wistful smile*

6. Congratulations! RIT has a good reputation, but I lived in Rottenchester
... for nine years so I can understand the reluctance. (It's a Balkanized community.) I've heard Northeastern has a good journalism curriculum, too. My cousin majored in Graphic Arts at Syracuse (when I lived in Rochester/Honeoye Falls) and the program there was outstanding, as I understood, back then in the late 70's. (She was quite talented.)

7. Congratulations on being accepted
I never went to any type of art or photo school. I did get a degree in journalism, but we focused on writing and they did not require us to take any photography classes.
I wish they would have cause after being hired at my first newspaper, a small publication in southern New Mexico, they required me to take photos with my articles, so I had to learn on my own.

8. I vote for Boston.
The Art Institute of Boston is part of the Lesley University system. That means there are four other colleges in the area you can cross-register with. They also offer a 6-month independent study option, so you could conceivably work an internship intensive and direct your own education with that.

All options sound great, though. I envy you your choices! :bounce:
