Ack! Kodak! Problems with software, connecting via USB...."Unavailable"?
Anyone have a Kodak Easyshare where they have problems getting started?

I run the Setup cd, I get the hourglass, then nothing.
I download the software from the site, it starts to self-extract, then nothing, like it didn't even happen.

I connect the camera via USB, nothing.it goes "New Hardware Found, Kodak camera", then "installing the software for your camera"...then nothing. Like I never attached it. Nothing comes up in "My Computer", like a drive "E:" or whatever.

BUT--if I click on "Scanners/Cameras" it lists my printer AND the camera. It says the status is "Unavailable".

Is this because I don't have a memory card? I have taken pictures using the internal memory.
Anyone got ideas?

1. mine did that, and on a computer that I had successfully
connected to previously.

Of course, now my camera isn't working at all, so I haven't been able to really solve the problem.

2. I don't know, it's working now.
???

Don't know what I did...I still don't see the Kodak software listed in my programs list, but at least the drive shows up in "My Computer".

Good luck with yours.

3. Kodak's software is really buggy
Where I used to work we had the same problem. Everything installed fine, but could never "see" the camera.

Worked fine under Windows 98SE, but not a single computer with W2k or XP.

Kodak had a patch for those having connectivity problems, but it didn't help one bit.

Best fix is tossing it and buying an external card and USB card reader. You'll be amazed at much faster you can transfer pictures as well.

4. A friend has an EasyShare and I remember we had this problem.
I think I used MSConfig to stop the Kodak program from starting when the computer was booted up.

After that, we were able to use Explorer to see the USB drive and transfer the photos to a directory/folder of choice on the hard drive.

I think she is using Corel PhotoPaint for her photo-editing needs instead of the Kodak software.

I have a Fuji camera, and an Olympus, and I don't use the software from either camera. I use Corel PhotoPaint (old version bought on eBay for cheap). :)
