Road trip!
It cleared up for a little bit this morning, so we took a drive south.

This is Portage Glacier.

Mountains, marsh grass, railroad tracks

Some very lush reindeer moss

We saw these guys from a footbridge across Sixmile Creek. http://www.alaskaraft.com/six_mile_rafting.htm

1. I really like the second one.
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 09:04 PM by intheflow
It's kind of like four different landscapes in one picture. I also love that second rafting shot; the way the rocks frame the river is very striking, and the rafters give the whole scene scale.

Very nice! :thumbsup:

2. Another beautiful set of pics Blue.
They also just keep getting better and better. I love the second one for the same reasons ITF does. Also love the reflection and framing in the last one but gets harder to pick a favorite anymore.

3. Jeeeepers, Blue
These are outstanding. The first one is so reminiscent of Lawren Harris (of Group of Seven quasi-fame). Look up his stuff on the internets if you're not familiar with him; his last stuff especially gets at what I mean.

These are just wicked good.

One caveat: these are more contrasty on my monitor than your work usually is. Not that that's a bad thing. Just wondered if you've recalibrated your monitor recently or whether this was something different with lenses or whatever...?

6. It's probably that "fade correct" button
in PaintShop X causing the contrast. I just recently started playing around with it, so the recent pictures are probably more saturated and colorful than the older ones. Did I hit it too heavy, do you think? I could always tone it down some, but I kind of like seeing those vibrant colors now because soon enough it's going to be monotones around here.

15. I don't think it's excessive
but it is a noticeable difference. I'd be curious to see some of your older pics run through the same process for comparison's sake.

4. Thanks!
Your pix made me happy. :)
In spite of all the recent nastiness and evil(republicans), we still live in a BEAUTIFUL World, at least for now.
Thanks for reminding me.

5. You're getting too good
Giving me a complex. :crazy: And your pp is really improving. You're doing something different.. either that or I'm having a nicotine mindf*** flashback.

I can't remember... does DU have a knitting group?

8. Thank you, F. Gordon.
What is this "pp" of which you speak? I'm a newbie - I don't understand the lingo. :blush:

9. PP? I have no idea
I just hear stuff that sounds technical and use it so I can impress people with my knowledge of photographemcustardical stuff.
:silly:

PP= "Post Processing".... "Photo Shopping"... stuff you do to your photos with PaintShop Pro after you take them. Speaking of which... have you had any problems with Paintshop Pro? 90% of the time it's fine but ever so often it crashes on me. This puter' stuff is so frustrating.
:crazy:

10. No, no problems
but while I've got you here, do you know why the "slideshow" button doesn't show in some of my SmugMug galleries. I don't know what I did.

11. Go to CONTROL PANEL
Click on customize and find the CSS box. You'll need to find and REMOVE this from your CSS code...

.play_slideshow {
display: none;
}

Keep in mind that a slideshow uses smugmug interpolation and allows people to hit the print screen button while a pic is showing so it kinda' gives people a way to "borrow" your pics. If you're kewl with that then just find and remove the code listed above.

:hi:

13. Can they do that even if you have all those protection things
selected? (Excuse my ignorance.)

14. Yes

It's the "backdoor" so to speak. And with these sophisticated interpolation (make bigger) programs out now you can enlarge images up to 16 times. Most people wouldn't know this but if you want more security disabling the slideshow would be part of that.

The other option for a slideshow is to have one on your homepage. It wouldn't be fullscreen so people couldn't hit Print Screen and "borrow" your photos. You could control the size of the images being displayed.

Another option is to put a Watermark on all your photos. Personally I don't like this because I think it distracts from the photo. But.. there are even programs out there that will remove Watermarks.

Nothing is 100% secure. It's whatever you're comfortable with. The slideshow is a neat feature so if you like it... leave it in and trust that most people are either clueless about "borrowing" or honest and respectful enough not to do this.

:hi:

On Edit: This is a 100% serious reply. ;-)

12. Gorgeous, hey my mountains have some snow in the caps too
But it's very warm again this week, up to 30C (80s?) so it might melt.

I love the second shot of the mountains, marsh grass, etc. Looks like here!!

16. I'm always surprised by how much your scenery
looks like ours. But we hardly ever get to 80, at least not here in Anchorage.
