Poll question: One last Tree poll...
It's hard to believe that we're almost half-way through the month already...I just realized that I need to pick an entry, and have no idea which to choose.

Reaching for the Sky

In the Dance

The White Tree

Sunset in Autumn

Carbon River Forest

December Dawn

Feedback is welcome.

1. *** PLEASE HOLD OFF ON VOTING ***
No sooner do I make a substantial change to one of the images than PhotoBucket goes down (for "Emergency Site Maintenance") and I can't replace the old version of the image with the revised one. After staying up an hour longer than I had planned, I'm throwing in the towel and going to bed. PhotoBucket will likely come back on line before I wake up, but one of the images won't be up-to-date, so any results wouldn't really be valid. So, please don't cast any more votes in this poll until I've had a chance to put up my edit a few hours from now. I'll post another message to this thread when I have done so. Thank you!

2. *** VOTING IS NOW RE-OPENED ***
So, I check PhotoBucket at least five times in the few minutes before hitting the "send" button on the last message. Once the message is posted, I make one last check. Need I tell you PhotoBucket came back up less than a minute after I posted the "please don't vote" message? I'd even say it was less than twenty seconds. In any event, all photos in the poll are now current. Thanks for holding off until I got that change made.

3. White tree is excellent
I think it would be even more so if you darkened the foreground trees a little and also possibly added some vignetting, so the white tree, the subject of your photo, would stand out more. Instead of vignetting, you might try more of a square crop, as the edges don't really add to the image.

6. Followed your suggestions...

I didn't do a fully-square crop because I didn't want to lose that twisty tree at the left, and am not a big fan of vignetting. Nonetheless, I trimmed the sides and darkened the foreground trees.

I have to admit I'm amazed at the results of this poll. I figured either In the Dance, Sunset in Autumn, or December Dawn was sure to win. As a matter of fact, before posting the poll, I went back and forth over whether to include The White Tree at all...I just didn't feel it was equal to the other selections. I only left it in because I thought I was selecting too many verticals, and wanted a horizontal to space them better. I figured it didn't matter much, since it would likely wind up at the bottom of the poll results anyway.

I should note that, since it started pulling away in the balloting, I've made several modifications to the original image (some prompted by suggestions here, some not), that bring it closer to looking as good as those other selections, IMHO. All I can say at the moment is "hurrah for LAB Color"...!

7. "I'm amazed at the results"??

It has to do, imho, with the theme. You say, "I figured either In the Dance, Sunset in Autumn, or December Dawn was sure to win." But even as the title you chose indicates ("Sunset"), the photo isn't as much about "Trees" as it is about "sunsets" (or even "leaves" - a pun). If the theme were "sunsets" the voting would (imho) be quite a bit different. (At least that's how it makes sense to me.)

I know it's waggish, but I might've even called it "Casper" instead of "White Tree." :silly:

9. Thanks. That makes sense...
...at least for two of them. I would think that In the Dance is still about the trees rather than the time of day, but I can see that it would make a difference for viewers.

And, not a bad suggestion for a name change, either, although I always hated that show when I was a kid. Maybe White Ghost?

4. White tree.
It's playing peek-a-boo with the viewer through the green leaves. :)

10. Ye' ol "Blue Thing"
I suppose I've beaten that old horse a little too much. But I really do like the color Blue. :P

Voted for...

Sunset in Autumn

Beside the Blue :P I just really liked that one but I can see why most people like the white tree. Would have been my 2nd pick.

11. OH! Well ... have I got the movie for you! "Into the Blue"!
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 05:13 PM by TahitiNut

Not only is there a lot of (underwater) blue, but the scenes with Jessica Alba scuba-diving rocked my world.
World. Class. Tuckus. O8) :loveya: :banghead:

It's a visual thing ... like photography. :dunce: :silly:

I know. Shallow. ;-) (Sport diving is limited to about 120'.)
