Finally getting around to lookin' at some of the film snaps I took over the summer. For some reason I really liked this one. May not be what yanks your chain. Anyhooooooo...



Got this software thingee that I'm still learning. It makes images HUGH!!111 and has some sophisticated sharpening stuff I haven't figured out yet. I've only gone as large as 300 meg file enlargement conversions but you can go even larger. Hard to appreciate on these small pixies; first is the original full frame and the second is a crop from the enlarged full frame.

Advantages are that you can do larger prints and retain more detail and same applies on "normal" size prints. That "retain detail thing". And if you like cropping it's pretty sweet.

1. I love the top one.

For me, as a painter, what makes that shot so special is the prevalence of two secondary colors, green (trees) and purple (sky). Just gorgeous; nice composition, too. :thumbsup:

Coming from an Artist I really appreciate your comments. I think it was the shadows that helped make this snap. 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later and I would have not had that. Course' I'm sure after I have this snap matted and framed eventually someone will ask me how I "photoshop'd" it. :eyes:

2. the first one looks like a painting

very picture perfect! You said Film, is this film or digital?

My only wish for the first one and it's nothing you could of controlled, is for a dash of periwinkle blue above the pond to be more spread out like it is on the right side. That's my only criticism, like I said that's beyond your control. Besides that petty thing, its beautiful.

6. Film as in Film. Not digital

Fuji Pro 160C. It's a "portrait" film. Actually it is considered a "neutral" film. I was using a Hoya P-Filter. And yea, I wish I had more of that periwinkle but it was all the sky would give me at that moment.

3. It really DOES look like a painting.

The saturation, hues, and composition make it look like the landscape prints so many folks (including my family) had on their dining room wall in the early-to-mid 20th century, a resurgence of 19th century realism/naturalism, I guess.

The macro stuff leaves me rather :shrug: ... since I regard them as all equipment (and nature) and not much composition and other human (artistic) elements of photography that I appreciate.

7. I'm glad you said it and not me

I had the same feeling about it. Marrying into a New York family that had been in the Antique biz since the late 40's I was sorta' kinda' forced to learn a thing or 100 bout' antiques. I've seen many a painting that this snap seems to emulate. I was going to mention how I liked this because I was the nostalgic-romantic type but I heard recently that being nostalgic was being an obstructionist. :eyes: Guess I need to come up with a different 'word' to describe my love for history and heritage.

I shouldn't have done a flower thing. I was just showing how well the software worked and figured most people liked flowers.

I had to load in Elements to get it to work. Doesn't work on Paintshop Pro. I'm assuming if it works on Elements it works on Shop.
