Some shots from the McKinley Princess (10 pix)
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 12:41 PM by Blue_In_AK
This is the main lodge at the McKinley Princess resort. On clear days, a view of Mt. McKinley fills this entire window. (I'm sorry if these look huge - I hate PhotoBucket's new resizing feature. These all look fine on the PhotoBucket site.)

Three sentinels

Some colorful foliage

We didn't get a view of the mountain at all because of the clouds, but these three show the puny little foothills at its base. Imagine the side of Mt. McKinley filling the entire gray area above these hills. That's how big it is.

This is the Chulitna River

The ground plants were a riot of color.

Ultimate birchiness

Highbush cranberry leaf

One of the trails around the grounds

1. Thanks, Blue
These are beautiful.
Isn't it amazing the something a HUGE as a mountain can hide?

I love all of these, especially the Resort through the trees (excellent composition), and the Trail through the woods (last).

I can't believe that Summer is already over!
Fall is here in Minnesota, but not as advanced as in your pics.....maybe a week or so behind.

2. Fall isn't so advanced here in Anchorage, either
I think because we're closer to the water, so the temperature is modulated some, plus we're just further south. It was interesting on the train ride to see how the colors got brighter and brighter the further north we went. The park will be even further along, being another couple hours north, but different because so much is above tree line. The tundra vegetation in the fall is brilliant, so I'm really hoping for some sunny breaks to do it justice. So far the forecast is holding - partly cloudy for the two days, so we "should" get some nice breaks.

We read in the paper this morning that almost 7,000 people put in for the park road lottery this year, so we were very lucky to be one of the 1600 selected for the four days on our first try.

5. Opanda
Hi Cobalt,
There is a neat little program (FREE) that allows you to "Right Click" on pictures and view the encoded EXIF data (if available). It will tell you what kind of camera, the exposure setting, date & Time, and other shot data.

You can download it here (FREE):

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/opandaexif.html

Its an effortless install. If you are using FireFox (I am), you will also need to add the extension. This is also effortless.

Since I'm interested in Photography, and I am nosy, I use it all the time.

4. Nice pix, what lens did you use for the leaf close-up?
And yes, I agree with you, whatever Photobucket did with the resize feature, it sucks.

I'm heading to Vermont/New Hampshire this weekend. Fall foliage pictures coming!!
