Camera Bag Recommendation :)

Nope, not asking for one, giving one . . . After shopping around for a good long while for a truly versatile and usable camera bag, I stumbled across http://naneupro.com/core.mdv

I ordered one of their U220 backpacks . . . this thing is freakin' awesome. Very versatile, very comfortable and very well designed.

I have one little complaint in that one of the fastening straps is sewn off center a tad, but it's not enough that I'm going to go nuts over it. I sent them an e-mail asking for a price adjustment or discount, we'll see what happens.

BUT, as far as build quality, features, and actual usability, this thing is the best I've found.

1. Very cool.

These look good.
I've been shopping for a good bag/pack.
Some of their models don't look like "camera packs" and offer concealed tripod compartments.
I like that feature.
It is smart not to advertise "Expensive Camera Stuff Inside".

Have you done a trial run to see how much will fit inside?

I fly commuter airplanes a lot and have to plane side check my rolling Laptop case. But I carry my powerbook into the plane. The Brain Cell makes this easy..

I can jam it with 2 bodies, a John Holmes lens, medium zoom (or flash), 2 primes, and a wideangle.... and my Lens Baby. :P I use the laptop compartment to hold notebook, film, homemade reflectors/diffusers... and it has the tripod holder on one side and the water bottle thingee on the other side.

Not that I would endorse doing biz with them. I think it's just a generic Lowepro backpack. Looks "close" to the bag you got. Yours looks like it has a belt strap or something, and I'm sure it's built better. Though'... I've put mine through the 'F.Gordon Test'. Has been dropped more than once, rained on.... dirt... mud.. all that stuff.

My Bag of Choice for short urban outings is a little lunch/drink cooler that I got for free. It has a shoulder strap and I can carry the camera and 2 lenses in it. What's nice about it is that it doesn't say.... "camera crap inside.. please steal me". They'll just think they are stealing a Tuna Fish Sandwich and a bottle of water.

6. Not only does mine have a belt, but it has a VERY well padded belt

and an internal frame (not quite hiking backpack quality, but close). It's also got huge amounts of padding between your back and the interior (along with a laptop sleeve and a few other really spiffy goodies).

The whole padded storage section is also removable as a unit and you can then use the pack by itself as a regular backpack.

My main requirement was to have extra space (room to grow for more equipment), a good way to carry a tripod, and be built extremely well. This met all the needs.

I was inclined to go with a Crumpler pack (which looks nothing at all like a camera bag), but there was no real way to carry a tripod properly.

edit: Now that I look, it's very possible that your bag is a re-badged Naneu. It has many of the same features of the smaller Naneu currently available, and a very similar model no. (the Naneu is the U120, yours is the U110, yours seems to lack the padded waist belt as well).

BTW, Wolf and Ritz are the same company. I bought my D200 from Ritz (closest local camera shop, and nobody was giving any discounts at the time, so it would have cost me the same anywhere else).

7. Does the Belt have hooky thingees?

When I did the Bluegrass snaparoo there was just me and a guy from the Newspaper there snappin' pics. I'm lugging my damn pack around and he had everything (all his lenses) hooked to a belt. I thought that was pretty kewl. It'd be nice to do a "quick change" every so often.

8. It has a couple, but what you're referring to is probably more like

one of the ThinkTank systems (or possibly Domke or Tamrac). They have a very cool setup you can get that has the padded belt and suspenders (almost like a photographers version of military web gear, with much padding and loops for all your gear instead of ammo pouches :)).

I don't want to go mo' money and I was thinkin'.... I have an old army ammo belt from when I was a boy scout about **cough** years ago. I bet I could retrofit that sucker to work. It won't "look" kewl but I think I could use it.

Will they let a Canonite in a Nikonian forum???

11. Padded Lunch Bag

Some years ago, I found a padded Eddie Bauer lunch sack in the road. So I shoved itno my stuff sack filled with other stuff sacks. Last year when I bought my camera, I found a use for it. I know, I probably took the caviar out the mouth of some poor millionaire fatcat.

12. Yeppers

They work great. I got mine free from a give-a-way thing.. have used it for over a year. The zipper thing is broke but it still works. It's slightly padded and it's kinda' waterproof. I just don't care for the color. I saw a bunch of these at a job lot store recently for like $4.00. I'll eventually have to replace it with a Blue :P one.



On Edit: And ya' know what works really well for Lens Cases? Digital Point & Shoot camera bags. Canon wants $30-$50 for a friggin' lens case but I've been using $3-5 camera bags that I find around that will fit a particular lens.

13. That's almost exactly what I use too.

Except mine is blue, and is insulated. I used it last Winter when I expected to be outside in
below freezing temps for very long. I could put a Chemical "toe warmer" packet in the bottom below a towel, and the camera and stuff in the bag would stay about 60F for 6-8 hours.

I can pack Camera body, zoom lens, wide angle, and a prime along with shutter cable, lens cleaning stuff, xtra battery, and flash card.
It has a padded shoulder strap which I lengthened so that I can sling it across one shoulder, under the other arm (across my body). It rides comfortably on my back while I pedal.

I still would like a nice padded backpack for traveling or hiking any real distance.
