Some house finches I think.
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 12:53 PM by Maestro
Male

Here is another view of the male.

Female

Or maybe they are two separate kind.

Then I captured this little guy, but I am not sure what it is. I thought it was another waxwing but it doesn't have the black streak around the eyes. It's pretty though.

1. Top one looks like some kind of a sparrow?
Perhaps too big for a finch, I always thought they were tiny?

2. Really, these guys were tiny.
It may look big because of the zoom (400mm). I'll check the sparrows though.

4. Here is one more.
I didn't post it before because I didn't think it was that good but on a second look, the little guy is looking right at me from behind the branch. :)

7. The birds look alike
but from the description it says they prefer coniferous forests. There are no coniferous near me. Although, this bird could have strayed from east Texas where there are large coniferous forests. This is the best match so far. Thanks for looking.

13. Definitely a terrorist bird....
It's foreign to my parts of the woods, it looks funny, mingling amongst others that aren't like him. I bet he is scoping out my backyard planning an attack.

14. After researching the kinglet, I think you are right.
Its territory is much more than just coniferous forests. Thanks.

15. of course.
living in Cape May County, NJ puts my smack in the middle of one of the biggest 'fly ways'. I have picked up a ton of birding knowledge by osmosis, I think...
I am 2 min from the Audubon visitor's center- and DO visit often.

17. Don't worry. Nothing taken the wrong way.
I hope to have more bird photos in a week or so. I am taking the family to the Texas Hill Country for an extended weekend over the MLK holiday. I hope to take part in the annual Texas Eagle count down on Lake Buchanan. And thanks for the comments. Although lately, I have noticed that I am cropping and zooming my pics too much in post processing. They are losing their "pop."

8. You keep getting better at this
Hey... check out the January 2007 Issue of Photographer Monthly. It's published in the UK. Has a great article on taking boid snaps. Lots and lots of great pointers. Think there is a followup to it in the next issue. If you can't locate it let me know and I'll post some of the highlights and pointers.

Also has article on taking creative pics around the house. And Landscape photogs.... the UK photogs are lightyears ahead of landscape photogs in the US when it comes to post processing. Lots of pointers and examples in this issue.

Just a FYI
:hi:

19. You are correct!
I have these finches everywhere! The males are much more prettier with their red heads, at least the ones around here have red heads.
