~~~MARCH PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS~~~
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 07:22 PM by mth44sc
Wonderful stuff folks! I enjoyed every single "snap" :-)
First place goes to DS1 for State Street
Second place goes to CC for Main Street, Port Deposit
Third plcae goes to WannaJumpMyScooter for Main Street, After the Mall
And the Host's Choice award goes to zytime for Old Town Zurich. I could have chosen any of them. I liked every single pic that was submitted for this month's contest. But zytime's 33rd post will always be a memorable one to me and for that and this wonderful photo, he gets the nod.
____________
Standings for the Final 10:
1. State Street by DS1
2. Main Street, Port Deposit by CC
3. Main Street, After the Mall by WannaJumpMyScooter
4. 7:30 a. m. by soup
5. High Noon by F.Gordon
6. Fire escapes by JeffR
7. (tied) (The) Main Street on a rainy day - Iquitos, Peru by Richard D
7. (tied) Saturday Afternoon, East Carpathians by MattSh
7. (tied) Somewhere In Alabama by Crisco
8. Old Town Zurich by zytime
Thread in GD is here
There was one late vote that I counted since it moved someone up and nobody down and that struck me as a good thing...
...now where did I last see that bottle of Maker's Mark? :toast:
1. Way to go, DS1
and everybody else!
These photos are all exceptional, and it's nice to see them get the votes and recognition they deserved.
mth44sc, you did a sterling job with the contest. Enjoy your beverage!
and what did you do with his other blush mark on his cheek? :rofl:
He gets so angry with out his people.
He is really yawning.
Beautiful kitty you have there but then I may be a bit biased.
4. Just a chance to pass on wisdom which was passed on to me
by a lot of great people here.
Just think, instead of sharing with each other in this group, we could all be eating each other alive in GDP!:)
14. Congrats DS1 on the much deserved win and a gorgeous
photo. A big :toast: to mth44sc for running the contest and doing a damn fine job of it. Made it look easy.
I will admit to feeling that mine was a snapshot and was shocked it did so well. Must be the town because it wasn't me. I had some favs that I would of picked for the finals and winning that didn't make it. I'll never understand the general public.
Not to leave anyone else out because I loved everyones photos but I want to add a shout out to priller. I loved Congress Ave, Austin and it was my number one choice for this contest. I do think it lost some impact being smaller even though there isn't much of a choice on-line. I would love to see it as a 30 x 20 or bigger because I think it would just wow people with its impact.
16. Some snapshot!
And I agree with you that priller's entry was tremendous. When Nance saw it, she said it looked like a classic Forties-vintage photo, despite the hints of recent architecture.
19. It is really hard to take a bad shot of Port
since they got rid of the absentee landlords and started cleaning the town up. Since just about every building (except the condos built on the water) are historic they are very strict on what you do to them now. It is also "The town that can never grow" according to Ripley's(pretty sure that was who coined it) because it is a river on one side and granite cliffs on the other. It only has one street to the town and that is Main St. Made it perfect for the theme this month.
A map of Port.
17. "Main Street"
People have an idea of what Main Street is supposed to look like, and the common ancestral memory in this case is very Norman Rockwellish.
20. That would explain things since
there were so many better photos that tugged at me for one reason or another that I thought would do so much better.
I am not saying mine was bad, I would never throw something I didn't like in the mix just that so many others spoke to me so much better.
21. You Know What?
This was something like the second time one of mine ever even made the finals and I know I've had better. I don't see much point in putting a lot of thought into it.
22. I don't normally though
it does help me sometimes when it comes to what I put on my website or when I am culling photos for someone. Sometimes there is one or a few that I would get rid of but stop and rethink it because of watching how the general public reacts to things in the contest. Well elsewhere too. Sometimes we can be our own worst critics so now I make sure to give more options that I would of once.
23. Thanks everyone
I'm assuming there will be Spring-specific contest coming up, so I'll choose something to balance that out, and not overload GD with happy pictures :D
