Kenai Peninsula
I took a little drive south of town this morning looking for flowers. I didn't have too much luck with that, but here are a few shots of mountains and water -- of which we have plenty of both.

And finally some flowers, but I don't think they're contest-worthy.

1. Forget the flowers.....
I'll never tire of your photographs.

What was wrong with your garden photographs? They were definitely "contest-worthy".

BTW... how far are you from this place?

I plan on checking out the one in Denver. Hopefully tommorrow.

3. (Blush), thank you, F.
I'm about 7 miles from the botanical garden -- it's on the east side of town and I'm on the west. It wouldn't be that hard for me to go over there and take some photos -- or I could just go downtown because the city plants beautiful flower beds all over. I think the tourists are always really surprised to see such lush gardens here in the frozen northland. But honestly I took another bleeding heart shot at home this afternoon that I'm going to enter in the contest. When I got home from my drive, the sun was shining on the flowers just right so that with a few little adjustments to the camera, I got the background completely black. I didn't even have to photoshop it -- I'm so proud of myself. Here's the same effect with the marigolds.

4. No fish in these particular streams
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 06:32 PM by Blue_In_AK
but in some of the other rivers down that way there are some B-I-G fish. And herebelow -- in case you've missed it the dozen or so times I've posted it :) -- is me with my big fish from last summer, all 44 pounds of her. And, no, I didn't get much closer to the little flowers ... the ground was wet and I didn't want to get down that low.

ed. Actually, there probably are trout in those top two bodies of water, and there could be fish in that bottom river by the flowers, too. But the other ones, no.

8. Yes, indeed, many tasty meals
plus yesterday I smoked a bunch of it so we could make room in the freezer for this year's catch. That's some really good stuff...I don't think anything is better than home-smoked salmon.

6. These must have looked very familiar to you.
They were Tern Lake, Lower Summit Lake, Granite Creek, Bertha Creek, coming down from Turnagain Pass, and whatever that little stream is there right at the bottom of the pass where it gets flat.

10. I got married in Homer a couple of years ago.
My brother had the bakery down there and made our wedding cake. I don't think there's a prettier place on earth than Homer, Alaska.

12. No, he shut the bakery down after the first of this year...
...after having it for about four years. Now he's working as a bull cook at a gold mine out by Aniak, two on, two off, which actually gives him more time with his family than he had when he was baking. He used to have to start work really early, like 1:30 in the morning, and driving in from way out East End Road in the winter got pretty old.
