We had some crazy ice formations last week. (Is "pic heavy" the default assumption here?)

Hi, guys. Is there room for one more? :hi:

I was walking by the estuary last week, and I'd never seen anything like this before. Great opportunity to test out the new camera. Thought I'd share...

2. Hi and welcome!
And yeah, pic heavy is assumed. :) I try to keep my picture sizes under 1 meg combined. But noone will yell at you here for exeeding that. Thats just my personal yardstick. Some pictures deserve the quality size affords.

But back to your pictures - and I can safely say I havent seen anything like it either. :)

4. These are great!
The light in the first one especially is perfect for showing whatever's going on.

5. the first one I have seen something
similar, but only once... happened when the temp drops while high tide is up, has to drop really fast, and really low I guess

6. Astonishing. Unlike any ice I have seen. GREAT light. Makes me
shiver. Must be when a thin water layer freezes all but instantly.
WOW - thanks.

7. I would think it must have been ice rain(thats what we call it here at least ; )
..beating down the vegetation and freezing - and then breaking when it thaws and the vegetation starts expanding.

Cool result, no matter what though.

9. very awesome!
I like the first and second ones the best...I like the way the ice has broken around the rocks, and the way the waves froze in the second....excellent work!

10. We get ice like that here
Edited on Wed Dec-24-08 12:55 AM by Blue_In_AK
from the tide coming in and out, especially early in the winter, but by now it's big chunky blocks of ice all smashing into one another.

These are nice shots of an interesting phenomenon of nature. :)

12. I like the last one best
because there's almost no reference for scale. It could almost be read as a shot of mountains from a plane.
