The Song of Hiawatha, a photo illustration.
One of my favorite places in Minneapolis is Minnehaha Park.
One of my favorite poems is Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha (1855) in which he speaks of Minnehaha. I used to sit at the Falls and read The Song of Hiawatha to the music of the Laughing Water. I could touch a World far different from the one I lived in, but whose ghosts still linger in special places.

While looking through the archives, I ran across this Photo Essay I did in 2005, and thought I would post it here.
The excerpts are from Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha.

All photos were taken in Minnehaha Park.

1. Thanks for posting, you brought back some great memories.
I lived with my grandparents outside of St. Paul for a few months, and this was one of the places my grandpa took me. He is one of the greatest people I've ever known. He courted(his words) my grandma there. They have been married over 60 years now.

2. Awesome!!
I am truly, truly inspired. Longfellow is a genius. This is one of my favorite poems. Plus I am a nut for urban parks of all kinds.

"Life is checkered, shade and sunshine"

Honestly, one of the contests here should be lines from poetry and/or songs, and representing that in pictures.

A picture is generally worth a thousand words, but Longfellow's words are worth........so much.

4. Excellent.
Capturing and presenting the spirit of such a poem is a great achievement. "But" (there's usually one) a lot of the highlights are blown out. This is a great project, and if you can, go back again and again, using what you have learned since then, and put together a 2.0 version. Thanks for sharing the 1.0 version. It does good justice to the poem.
