5. Good people indeed.
I was hitching and was carried bby a truck driver from Timasoara to his home in Deva (he stopped his truck just before that city to take me up to the Roman castle ruins you photographed and see the view from there) and gave a night's lodging with his family (very not-rich) there, and then took me further on his route to Bucharest where he treated me to a zero-budget night out with his friends. It's similar in some ways to India - a country rich in ways that money cannot measure, but with a lot of suffering.

6. I wish I'd had a chance to visit Eastern Europe...
...but, when I was living over there, the Iron Curtain was still in place, and Americans were still very much personae non gratae.

I'm glad to finally see some photos of it.

8. I also wish I had been able to spend more time.
I had agreed to meet a friend in the Hagia Sophia at noon a few days later, and had stayed in Scandinavia as long as possible, and was just hitching by the most direct route to Istanbul. The ride across Bulgaria was provided by a couple of GI's stationed in Germany I believe, and we just drove into a Black Sea campground and just put up our tents on the crowded beach. This was during Vietnam. Never encountered any hostility or sense of being unwelcome, but my most of that short time was as a passenger in a moving vehicle, so my range of experience was very limited.

9. When were you there, and where were you?...
I was in one of the Armored Cav units that patrolled along the Iron Curtain; 3/2 ACR, 1974-75.

3. All of these shots are so cool, Adso
I really like this wide angle, and it's so nicely composed. Love the pigeons. :)

4. Thanks Blue...
I don't have a wide angle function, or lens, so I have to work with cropping.

I am told they make a couple of interchangeable lenses for my camera, but I am thinking about saving that money to apply to a bit nicer camera body.
