More zoo pics . . . More Prairie Dogs :)
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 06:16 PM by ET Awful
I swear, these guys are just so fun to watch. I'd love to photograph them in their natural habitat instead of a zoo :)

Of course tapirs are also pretty funny critters. This guy kept sticking his tongue out at me:

And, a strutting peacock (too bad he wasn't showing off his tail)

This little guy was awesome. He's a full grown African Pygmy Falcon. Unfortunately, he lives behind a mesh screen, and it really messes up pictures :(. He's still a pretty good lookin little fella:

And of course some more of our taller (and shorter striped) friends:

4. Thanks! I was using a Nikon D70 with Sigma 80-400 OS lens.
I also used fill flash on a few to counteract the bright sun.

2. I love them!
I could sit at the zoo all day. Prairie dogs are so adorable. I don't know where you live, but there used to be a park near Lawton, Oklahoma where you could go and feed the prairie dogs. There were hundreds of them. And they weren't scared of you at all.

5. Thanks :)!
Yeah, the prairie dogs are a blast to watch. They're so active. When they're working on the tunnels and stuff, they always have a couple standing guard. I swear it looks more like he's the construction foreman and they're the labor or something :)

6. Thanks :)
I just love animals in general.

My favorites are probably the big cats and monkeys. But, there aren't a lot of monkeys at this zoo, the lions are asleep, and the ocelot wouldn't sit still :).

7. Love the giraffe close-up...
I wonder if they are friendly and like a scratch behind the ear? I wonder what a giraffe kiss is like? I bet it would tickle!

8. How heavy is that new lens of yours? How large?

9. Sorry I missed this before.
It's a pretty large lens. It weighs about 4 lbs. and takes a 77mm filter, probably about 8 inches long at it shortest.
