1. Have to ask about the processing here, because I love the shot.
There's some artifacting that detracts from it.

3. This was taken with the Canon Powershot A520

and cropped from a much larger shot. I removed a bit of another shutter on the upper right-hand corner and a slice of a round detail above the windows, then did the regular adjustmnts for strightness, levels, sharpness, and contrast. After cropping, straightness was adjusted slightly according to the line drawn along the bottom of the window openings.

I admit i was lazy when removing the section of window shutter; I simply used the "smart erase" function, which probably drew that shadow down from the overhang, rather than either cloning or going by pixel.

That was the extent of it.

Where is the artifacting( I believe you that it is there, but I suspect my monitor is of a lesser quality than yours, so I don't notice it).

EDIT: On blowing this up on the screen I can see that the removal of that shutter portion smoothed out the building texture and darkened the pixillation. There was a rake-angled overhang that was cropped out, but the shadow from it remains and that may be contributing somewhat.
The windows look odd around the edges of the glass, but the difference in reflection along the top edge of the left-side pane of the lower-right window, and the sharp corners on the others, leads me to believe that the glass is probably beveled on the edges.

The Powershot A520 is a 4mp point-and-shoot, so cropping in this much may be a contributing factor; sharpening is always an issue for me when I do this.

Here is the original shot (reduced in size for posting, and with arrows added to show what was removed or straightened).

Your thoughts?

8. Thanks for the explanation. The extreme crop accounts for some
of the degradation of detail. I notice in the full version, though, there's jagginess along the downspouts to the right and on the roof line. This may result from resizing to some degree, but the problem could be oversharpening too.

I like the crop a lot. You've extracted the most interesting part of the full photo and the crop works as a standalone image. Not always an easy thing to pull off, for me at least.

2. What a neat shot. I really like the two windows with some action,
they create a diagonal to me that gives added interest

5. Thanks Mira! I posted the larger shot from which I cropped it in my response to Jeff
I originally captured it because I was taken by that one window with the curtain draped out. I thought to myself "Hmmm...signalling that someone's SO is away for the weekend?"

4. What a cool composition. That would also make a neat water color painting.

6. Thankyou GreenPartyVoter ; the larger shot is in my response to Jeff
How is YoungerGreenKid's photo carreer doing? I really enjoyed his entry in the November contest.

Per your suggestion; here is a quick rendering from the "watercolor" menu in photoshop:

I think it could work nicely as a watercolor.

7. Wow, that came out great! Little man hasn't taken any pics lately, but he wants to try and
get some night shots if he can. His dad has signed up (Jethro_Tull) and is debating over which of his night shots to use. :)
