and cropped from a much larger shot. I removed a bit of another shutter on the upper right-hand corner and a slice of a round detail above the windows, then did the regular adjustmnts for strightness, levels, sharpness, and contrast. After cropping, straightness was adjusted slightly according to the line drawn along the bottom of the window openings.
I admit i was lazy when removing the section of window shutter; I simply used the "smart erase" function, which probably drew that shadow down from the overhang, rather than either cloning or going by pixel.
That was the extent of it.
Where is the artifacting( I believe you that it is there, but I suspect my monitor is of a lesser quality than yours, so I don't notice it).
EDIT: On blowing this up on the screen I can see that the removal of that shutter portion smoothed out the building texture and darkened the pixillation. There was a rake-angled overhang that was cropped out, but the shadow from it remains and that may be contributing somewhat.
The windows look odd around the edges of the glass, but the difference in reflection along the top edge of the left-side pane of the lower-right window, and the sharp corners on the others, leads me to believe that the glass is probably beveled on the edges.
The Powershot A520 is a 4mp point-and-shoot, so cropping in this much may be a contributing factor; sharpening is always an issue for me when I do this.
Here is the original shot (reduced in size for posting, and with arrows added to show what was removed or straightened).
