My plan is to take the top three vote-getters from each group, with the wild card being the next highest candidate from the total of the three groups, if that makes sense. I'll keep this open until Wednesday morning around 9:00 or so.

1. I think there is a problem with this setup

first of all most of the people voting are people who submitted and they only get one vote. Hey they vote for their own in most cases.

Or they get a friend to vote for them, doesn't take many friends when you're up against people with mostly 1 vote - themselves.

I think having the first round in the Lounge would get a whole lot more people voting, and a diversity of people.

I know it's too late now, or is it. But for future contests perhaps we "vote" on a form that stays standard, and we quit changing it every month on the whim of whoever won the last contest.

I know the person who set the policy was very short timed on du. And that's an excellent example of why we should set a standard policy and not go on individual whims.

2. Would anybody else like to weigh in on this?

I can easily move these to the Lounge now if everyone thinks this is a good idea. I was just generally following the format that Algomas was going on when I took over the contest. Anyone?

3. You could leave the 3 voting threads here and just

post an announcement there with links. (Encourage comments/kicks there.) I think that superconnected is right about the low traffic here making it hard to get meaningful results, altho I doubt ballot-stuffing is likely or could go unnoticed if tried.

...hosted by volunteers who are human. We'll never get a set of contest rules that everyone agrees on, because people leave and new people with new ideas join. We learn as we go. No big deal.

because I was trying to follow the guidelines that Algomas had set out before he was "disappeared." I think his plan had been for us to narrow the field down to 10 within the group and then post the finals out in the Lounge. Maybe I misread him. I could have moved the threads out into the Lounge after I set them up this after, but I figured this would suffice with a little less work for me.

Whatever ... this seems to be working okay.
