"We are hard at work on a cost of war video for Rethink Afghanistan. We are looking for images that tell the story of shuttered hospitals, falling apart schools, foreclosed houses, and long unemployment lines, here at home.

Can you get us black and white still shots of any of this?

A shot that has heart and soul. A photo that makes folks immediately feel the crisis in our country.

Please send your photos to Kim at kimh@bravenewfoundation.org."

1. Unfortunately,
or fortunately, I guess, Anchorage has not been hit hard by the recession so I don't know where I could get shots like that around here. Got a lot of soldiers, though, who I'm sure would be happier not to be sent overseas.

2. No infrastructure issues at all? We've got a mess of old bridges in our area. Scary ones.

3. I'm going to have to think about it.
Anchorage's advantage, among other things, is that we've basically only been a city since the '40s, and much of downtown was rebuilt after the '64 quake.

We read local economic articles up here all the time detailing how we've been able to avoid the most serious effects of the recession. The oil economy probably helps. Dirty money, I know, but money nonetheless.

4. Oh, that's true. I hadn't considered the age of the city.
