Hey, Photo Group!
I just want you all to know that this site has been a great treat for me, and I have come to appreciate and enjoy all who post here; both your work, and your personalities.

I will be starting my final semester of Grad School on Monday, and it will certainly be the most demanding of them all. In light of that, this evening and tomorrow I will probably spam the board with 3 or 4 series of shots from my last trip; after that, I probably won't have much time for shutterbugging and posting until late Spring (you can stop saying "Thank the gods" now) ;) except maybe the occasional shot if I absolutely have to get away from the books, writing, and TAing.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy the time I spend here. This is absolutely the best forum and group of people on DU, imho. :D

And Mira, that snow series is some outstanding work!

1. Will miss your photos but
can understand the time crunch. Do well in your study, take time to relax and just breathe on a regular basis and leave a I'm still alive once in a while. You at least left us (temporarily) with some beautiful, even stunning photos.

2. Thankyou, CC. I'm sure I'll have to come up for air on occasion
and I suspect I'll catch a few minutes in the evening to see what people are posting; I just won't have much time for putting up my own stuff. :hi:

4. Adsos!
Spam away! I've looked at everything you've posted last night and they are all wonderful! I would say that you are definitely grown into that new camera and doing a fine job, with a fine eye.

I wish you success and not too much stress in your final semester. You've come so far and the end is now in sight! That is some hard work to get this far, and for that you deserve some kudos!

You and your wonderful contributions will definitely be missed here. But you get after what you need to, and we'll be here waiting for your return.

9. Thanks, hippywife. There IS a light at the end of this tunnel...
hopefully, it won't involve helicopters plucking me from the rooftop of the Social Sciences building at the university. :D

5. Wishing you all the best you can make happen, and good luck to boot,
I'll accept that you'll post less for a while, but hope that you'll do as you say and drop in and say a word or two when you can.
Thanks for your kind comment about my walking in the snow adventure yesterday. I have to do it all over again today, because the sun is shining.
Now I'll wander over to your reflection posts.

We'll be thinking about you!

13. Thanks, alfredo. And hey...
thankyou for your tips on how to steady the monopod; I utilized them on my last trip, and it worked very well. I did tons of walking through Philly, and never busted out the tripod even once (though I probably should have). In any case, the monopod techniques you suggested worked great. Now, I just have to order a ball mount from Manfrotto and I'll be set.

As for a comparison you made in one of those posts: I only learned to use the sling as sort of an add-on; the M-16 doesn't have either the recoil or the muzzle-rise of the M-14. :D

21. the M14 left me partially deaf. When you get the ball head, be sure to check
the threads to make sure they are compatible. Do that before you leave the store. They have threaded inserts that will work.

It wasn't just the M14, 3+ years of copying morse code did its share.

24. Thanks for the heads up on the thread issue; the monopod is Manfrotto
so it should be ok, but I'll be sure to check anyway.

3 years in the Field Artillery (155mm) plus some concerts certainly didn't help my hearing any.

30. I remember when they made us use
slings on M=16's... and I wondered why. Then I fired an M=14 on full auto and I understood very clearly.

26. Will do, Jeff. The upcoming trip bringing my daughter back out to UCSD
is bound to spark some shutterbugging since I've not been through the Carolinas, Georgia, or anything else that far south (my last drive from Philly I went south through Virginia, but cut across through Tennessee, etc.). Gonna' swing down through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, etc. this time.

Good luck and smooth writing on your thesis. I'm just in my second year, so I have all that to look forward to. I really enjoy your pictures, so don't worry about "spamming" the board with them.
