*** IMPORTANT - WINTER CONTEST SCHEDULE - PLEASE READ ***
Well, due to my dropping the ball and failing to check back here over the past week while the monthly contest was being scheduled, it looks like we're going to have to have an ultra-quick Winter Seasonal Contest, with the dates as follows:

Submissions - 2/1-2/4 (only four days, so make sure to enter early!)
Preliminaries - 2/5-2/6 (two days for the voting instead of the usual three)
Finals - 2/7-2/8 (ditto)

In blueraven95's absence, Mira has graciously offered to help, and will be co-hosting the contest.

Better start going through your files now!

1. I am more than happy to postpone
the submission dates for the monthly to a later date. I can start the submissions on 2/10 and plan on finishing them up toward the end of February thereby giving a bit more time for the winter contest.

Let me know what you think. I am flexible on this.

2. A gracious offer, Mz Pip and in my opinion a good idea.
I think it would be helpful to have a little breathing room and not bunch two contests so tightly. It's good for the photographers to not have to hurry with two entries, and good for the GD voters as well.

Unless we have a wail from anxious people who can't wait to submit their still life, that would be a good solution in my mind.

3. How about this, then?
Seasonal Contest:

Submissions - 1st-8th (or whenever thirty entries are received)
Preliminaries - 11th-13th
Finals - 14th-16th

That would allow the monthly contest to begin with submissions in the photo group, as you suggest, on the 10th, and allow the monthly preliminaries and finals to be run anytime from, say, the 18th onward.

Let me know if this works for you.

4. The schedule change is really
no big deal. For those of us sort of 'late' to this forum some definitions would be good. By winter do we mean snow pictures or.............. what? :)

5. The contest is called "Seasonal Contest" and this time of year refers to winter.
Therefore, as I see it, if it says:"Winter" to you in your neck of the woods, snow or no snow, it is a seasonal photo.

Submissions will start tomorrow.
Happy shooting, or happy digging, and good luck.

For me, some of the best times I have is when I look through my files for photos I can unearth and look at again for a contest.
What rich moments they are for reminiscing, and finding forgotten stuff.

6. That works for me.
It's perfect actually. I'm heading for the mountains and will be back on the 10th. Although we have internet access up there, if we get walloped by a fat storm we'd probably lose power and I'd have to wait until I returned to post the submission thread anyway.

So now I don't have to worry about it. The last time I won and was hosting a contest we were up there and the power went out the night before I was due to post the prelims. Fortunately, the power came back on in the middle of the night but I did have a bit of a freak out over it. :scared:

8. I'd like to add one additional point to the seasonal contest rules...
In the past, unlike with the monthly contests, there has been no requirement that seasonal contest winners host the next contest. I don't intend to change that entirely, as, generally, blueraven95 and I will continue hosting these. However, after the situation this month, I would like to have the rules provide that whoever wins, if necessary, be available to help out the usual hosts, should one or the other of them be unable to participate. Needless to say, someone thus participating will still be allowed to enter a photo in that contest.
