Flowers. A happy accident

The intense color comes from using the auto white Balance in GIMP. I used brown butcher paper for the background, so you can tell how much the colors were altered.

leather. I never would have guessed it was brown wrapping paper. That's a wonderful effect.

All I did was crop, sharpen, and white balance. The color of the background reminds me of some of the neoclassic paintings.

20. I wasn't saying that they are giving up anything. GiMP just doesn't

have the big name and prestige of PS. So in that respect is in not PS.

The more I use GIMP, the less I miss PS and dealing with Adobe.

If I did a lot of printing, I guess PS would be a better choice, but I don't.

27. I find that Preview that comes with OSX is really good for cropping

because the tool displays the dimensions. The histogram and other editing tools are pretty good. With iPhoto I have GIMP as the editor of choice.

13. technically, that's not all you have available, but it's a great application. If you're looking

for a 16-bit version of the Gimp, you might try CinePaint. There are also many other options, including commercial ones.

17. I started with Color It and then Gimp 1.2. When GIMP got

the fade utility, I was very pleased. That for me was an essential tool.

There is Pixel and Graphic Coverter too.

24. it's a trade-off I guess. People that I know, have used it as a transition,

but eventually got to the point where they preferred the GIMP interface, in most cases. Whether that's a matter of problems with the plugin, or just general approval of the different interface, I don't know. Me, I used Windows at work, and I always disliked the MDI interface. But then, I'm the type that uses a lot of alternative OSes, so I've seen a number of ways to do things, that that might have spoiled me.

the in window menues. To really get the most out of OSX, it is good to explore the UNIX side of it.

I haven't done it yet. I had problems getting used to Open Office, too. When you're used to using one kind of software every day all day for work, it becomes second nature and is really hard to adjust to anything else. Even if some of the differences can be small, it's still very aggravating.

I'm just getting less patient with change as I age.

7. It was an accident. The white balance on the Canon is pretty

good, so auto white balance usually does nothing. It might have had something to d with it being in low light.
