Trees

One of my favorite subjects is trees. I probably have hundreds of pictures, but these are a few of my favorites.

This is a mesquite-shaded path at Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, Arizona.



I took this one from inside a cave somewhere in Southern Ohio. The roots were too cool to ignore.



This one is a spring field in Greeley, Colorado.

1. I have a thing for trees too

Thanks to a jr. high school art teacher.

Here's a couple. I have more just not anywhere online at the moment that I can post here. The second one was recently used on the cover of a local alternative magazine.

2. I hug trees

I love trees, too. I am even a tree hugger. When a big dogwood fell down in front of my house in my first year of ownership of this home, I was grief-stricken. I even went out and hugged the tree before it had to be cut up.

The tree was diseased but I didn't care; I loved it anyway.

My cat loved it when I hugged the tree. She would join me but sharpened her claws on the bark instead of hugging it!

I know a fellow DU-er who does beautiful pictures of trees. I will write him and ask him to post some of his magnificent tree photos.

intheflow, that third one is a pleasing composition. On the one above, is that erosion that has exposed the tree roots?

electricmonk, first one is very unusual. Second one: ghostly. Ummm, I like!

3. those are wonderful pics of trees

I like the one taken from inside a cave. Amazing to what lengths a photographer would go through to get just the right shot.

this was taken on my road. It was beginning to rain and the forest had this eery greenish glow--I suppose it is from the lichens

12. Your photo kind of reminds me of one of my pics.

This picture is of wet aspens in Colorado. When I scanned it in, I was disappointed. For some reason, it lost a lot when converted from film to pixel. :shrug: But I like it anyway.

4. I stumbled upon this grouping of trees just last week.

I love photographing trees, too! Unfortunately, this photo suffers a bit when reduced for DU. This was taken at the stone circle in Avebury, England (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/scripts/nthandbook.dll?ACTION=PROPERTY&PROPERTYID=316). These three trees stand sentinel over part of the Avebury site; their roots covered this hillside.

6. Those must sacred trees

planted by the Druids. :-) what a tangle of branches--I wonder what it looks like with leaves on them. You have to get another picture in the summer and post it.

As if on full moon nights they turn back into three dancing princesses.

And I agree with M. Zebrina that I'd love to see them fully leafed. Hopefully you live by here and weren't just on vacation so you can fulfill our leaf-lust this summer! :)

Urban trees can't compete in the beauty department, so they try humor.

17. I live in Wisconsin. My parents live near Sarasota during the

winter. I went down to visit them in 2001 and took bunches of photos at a garden near there.

Is that a banyan tree? The Buddha found enlightenment under a banyan tree. This tree looks like a place to find some enlightenment. (Maybe we can send Jeb there? ;) )

I don't see trees like this in the frozen north although if you walk in the forest, you may be tripped by a vindictive root hidden beneath the rubble on the forest floor.

This tree is amazing to me.

29. I'm still baffled why my image didn't get embedded in my post

Thanks, SF, for finding a way to display it!

I see you pulled the image from the site where I stored it (imagehosting.com) and stored it on another server and inserted the url for that server. Using View/Page Source, the only difference I see between my url (which didn't work) and everyone elses is that all the other urls end with the picture format (jpg, etc.). Mine ends with an ID number. So maybe I should try a different image hosting site, huh?

The picture was just dumb luck! The night before this picture was taken, weather conditions combined to coat every exposed limb, branch and twig with about 1/2" of granular snow. When the sun started going down it took on a golden hue and voila! These trees are across the road from our house. I couldn't miss!

I've found fog at this location on several other occasions. Always provides good photo ops.

I couldn't help it. There's so much poetry that uses trees as metaphors, it would be impossible for me to not connect the feel of a photo to the metaphorical imagery.

36. here are some of my favorites

This tree can be found on Beer Can Beach (the name makes it sound terrible, but one of the best beaches I've been to on the west coast of Florida) A mangrove tree, it had once seen better days before the wind came and tried to sweep it away.


Somewhere between Reno and Utah... A tree of many years past waits for a wondering eye to catch it's beauty.




A shanty little spot on the bama florida border, better known as Florala.
