Here are a few more from our trip last week. These are all from Valdez. Picture-taking was kind of tricky down there because of the wildfire haze, but I did my best with what I had.
This is "the end of the line" - spawning pink and chum salmon...
This is the "old" cemetery in use before 1913. Unfortunately, all the headstones were washed away in the tsunami following the 1964 Good Friday quake. These wooden headstones were put up afterwards on the graves that could be identified from other records, but about 65 other people are buried here in unknown places. There's just a list of their names posted at the entrance to the graveyard.
This is where the old town of Valdez, prior to the quake, used to be. Afterwards Valdez was moved to a safer point further to the west and all building was forbidden here.
Thousands of seagulls were feeding on the spawned out salmon. I took this picture from a distance and tried to get a little closer with the second one. This is when I wish I had those fancy lenses some of you guys have.
