How long can you safely leave the battery in? A few Hours?

I leave mine in all the time.
If you are not going to be using your camera for a while (weeks/months), remove the battery.

3. More like a few days depending on how much charge was in it the last time you used it |

The problem is that leaving the battery in might discharge that battery to the point where it wont take a charge anymore, I've had that happen once and it was a fairly new battery with less than 10 cycles on it.
