There are no better advantages a good photographer can have than patience - and good luck. Although the former increases your chance of the latter sometimes.
This guy (or girl, I can't tell) suddenly appeared up out of the water when I was taking some shots from a bridge.
It's from the same location as my Summer Contest photo "Lazy Creek" here:
I quickly switched to a telephoto and got him as he swam almost directly beneath me.
My point is, sometimes you find opportunities where you don't expect them. And sometimes those opportunities come just from waiting around in the right setting - when the light is right.
So, even after you've taken your great shot, slow down. Look around. Be observant of motion or anything unusual.
You might be lucky and get that second great shot.
