***September Photo Contest***
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 12:32 PM by GreenPartyVoter
Hi all!

Hope people are ready and rarin' to go with the new monthly contest. This month's theme is "Sesame Street" inspired. Feel free to sing along. :D

"One of these things is not like the other."

Submissions (1 per person) can be made in the next thread which will appear around the weekend of September 10. Prelims will be held during the weekend of the 17th, with finals being posted on the 24th.

Please keep your photograph entry no larger than 800 pixels in its longest dimension and under 200K in file size, unless otherwise designated by contest host. If you need help posting a photograph or with image sizing just ask.

Please do not use frames, except for a 10 pixel black frame to define white backgrounds.

Post-processing is permitted in the same tradition as processing techniques of print photography.

The contest host may alter the written rules at the beginning of their contest, and is the final arbiter of the rules and any issues that may arise.

The contest host may not enter their own photo contest, but may choose the theme in any manner they decide. (The quarterly seasonal contests are an exception to that rule, and the host may enter those contests.)

The winner of the contest agrees to host the next month's contest (or recruit someone else to host the contest). For seasonal contests, winner agrees to be available to assist in hosting the next seasonal contest, should the hosts require such assistance.

Be sure to read the following before you enter a photograph.

CONTEST LICENSE

An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph, is giving permission for that photograph to be copied to Demopedia and/or to a linked Gallery that will display the photographs entered for this contest for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted. Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.

An entrant can disclaim this Contest License and retain all rights to the photograph. If an entrant wishes to disclaim the Contest License they must include the following statement in the post containing their photograph; "I disclaim the Contest License, and reserve all rights to my photograph" Any photograph submitted by an entrant with this disclaimer statement will not be copied and displayed in Demopedia and/or any linked Gallery.

1. As usual
when a theme is presented out of the blue without a poll I collapse and say: I have NOTHING for that.
(last time was "Storms" and then I ended up doing well)

Now I have a question the answer may be self evident, but because I'm an annoyingly curious person I want to ask it.

Your 10 year old son and husband have entered, and you are running this contest for your winning entry husband who is not a regular poster or participant here, according to my observation.
You, yourself, have never entered, to my knowledge.

Which one of you is prohibited from entering, under the circumstances, if I describe them correctly?

Now, I'm off to see about Bert, Ernie, and Oscar the Grouch, and probably find that I have NOTHING for that at this point.
Which makes it more interesting, for sure, to go and find it.
Kindergartens, here I come.

2. I did enter one time, but I'm not a photographer myself, just a groupie for the husband and
kidlet. None of the Green family will be able to enter this contest because I feel that's the correct interpretation of the rules under this particular circumstance.

I can't wait to see what you find that fits the theme, or better still what finds you! :D Say hi to Elmo for me!

3. Thank you for the clarification.
Oftentimes it is good to have established a parameter, before there is unexpected commotion.
I have already found my entry.
I am aghast, it's a photo I have hanging (among many others) in my cluttered workshop, but I got up from the computer after asking the question, and there is was tacked to the wall right behind me.

I can't believe it.

Now I have to go and find it in the files.

6. Well of course there is a mistake in the OP. It should read "otherS" not the singular "other." It's
up to the individual photographers to decide if they are shooting a pair of things/people or a group. Sorry for the confusion, if there was any.

I NEVER SAW the theme. :dunce:

I was reading it as if the theme is "Sesame Street".
Now I went back to see what you were referring to, and for the first time saw the proper theme

"One of these things is not like the others"

Yikes, I have NOTHING for that.
And my "Sesame Street" entry won't fit that theme.

:scared:

edited to add the dunce cap and to say
I'm now off to find imperfections in visual alliteration scenarios

9. Well, I for one am glad
that Mira posed the "theme" question. After reading the above posts, and viewing a YouTube of Cookie Monster, ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZIvgQ9ik48 ) I think I've got it!

Something like this?

11. Since I've already run my mouth plenty, one more observation a few hours later
THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN

I suddenly see the possibilities everywhere, and that means it is already doing its job of opening and widening my eyes to what's around me.

This one, for the reason that the subject is easy, will turn on originality, humor, or photographic excellence, I think.

I'll be shooting stuff, but I realized, in hindsight, that even my original photo, when I thought the theme was "Sesame Street" fits the category.

13. I'm so glad you like it. I hope that having a broad topic like this will
help people who have been a little shy about joining in feel like this is something they can manage. :)

P.S. if you decide not to use that original photo after all, please let me see it? I'm all curious about it now! :D

15. Progression report...
I did a little photo shoot in my kitchen, and I am laughing and happy. Maybe I have something.

But it's early.

Without a doubt I will post the photo you want to see, one way or another. I may still use it in the contest, heck, I may do a poll if it ends up that I invent one a day....
You asking to see it makes me feel good because you must like some of my work, or you would not ask.

16. Oh yes, I do very much enjoy your work, and I am very intrigued that you
have Sesame Street themed shots just handy in your workshop. When you share it with me I will tell you a little story I have about Sesame street pictures myself. ;)

12. Now that I finally
got a new USB cable I can start downloading photos again. I have lots of pictures on my memory card to upload. Maybe there will be something there that fits.

This will be a challenge but I do have a couple of ideas.
