Bridal Veil Falls (DIAL-UP WARNING)
At the end of a picturesque if quite strenuous hike up Mt. Index in the North Cascades...

...you reach the middle branch of Bridal Veil falls.

This waterfall is unique in that it has a very wide flow across the huge granite face.

Thus, there isn't the sort of narrow but powerful cascade found at most waterfalls. Especially in late summer, when water flow is lighter, there are occasional jets and falls, but mostly a "waterwall" effect where the entire rock face is coated with a light veneer of clear, flowing water.

After making its way down the face, the water collects in a small pool...

...before forming one stream and continuing to the lower branch of the falls.

Meanwhile, you also get great views across the valley.

1. That is a very nice climb, but when I did it (too many) years ago.
there were no steps or railings. Used tree roots as ladders and scrambling toward the sound of the falls - just an unmarked from the Lake Serene trail. Tough (and dangerous to photograph because getting far enough away requires levitation or a very wide angle lens. (See http://www.waterfallsnorthwest.com/waterfall.php?num=73&p=0 )

Good work in capturing the whole experience. I like the 6th one (with the logs) best, since it shows the steepness of the terrain and the nature of the water flow over the cliff face most clearly.

2. My pics from Bridal Veil Falls last Saturday

The angle is from the left because I crossed to the other side of the falls to take most of these pics.

3. And a few more from Friday morning...

(The last one has, obviously, been taken to black and white; however, it was virtually monochromatic in its original version, with only a slight touch of color in the water.)

4. Some views from a distance...
These were taken from across the valley. The wide (tall?) angle gives you an idea of the size of the mountains surrounding the falls.

Obviously, with the coming of the autumn wet season, water flow has increased dramatically. I was almost tempted to try going back up, but didn't have my hiking boots in the car.

A better view of the falls themselves. Almost all the original pictures in this thread were taken at the "break" between the middle and lower falls, visible near the center of the photo. Next time (probably in May or June of next year), I want to get to the lower falls as well.
