I can feel the shade, too. I like the happenstance of the black window dead center.

Edited to take out my question of "where is this" realizing you said "The Louvre".

It must be the side away from the pyramid, because I think there are not such big trees in the Plaza.

Anyway, my mind was still with you in Vienna....

You're correct, it's the south side of the Louvre, on the Seine.

Just to play with it, since we cannot see the bottom of the building, I cropped off the top (just above the windows) then increased the contrast to emphasize the shadows more. This changed the feel of the picture, not necessarily better, but different.

I like the way the light from the left creates the shadows which helps bring out the details in the carvings.

I really wanted to have those elegant pediments in the composition, as well as a bit of sky, in order for it to be able to "breathe".

I'm sure though, that one can crop this picture in a number of different ways, and still make it work.

12. With the new cropping,

the building does lose a little; places a bit more emphasis on the shadows. I might have gone a bit too far with the contrast, maybe.
