Gulls

Kumlein's gulls, I think, or Iceland gulls. Last two are as shot, first two are cropped to remove some peripheral ducks (the gulls were crashing a bread party the ducks were having).

1. I love these

They are so much fun to watch when they get together and start swooping around. I guess these particular kinds are migratory because I see them in our lakes here, but only in February and March????? A lot of gulls tend to look alike but I think I may have some photos of exactly this kind. Hard to tell though.

You really caught the action of gulls here!

And they're really quick on the water. The ducks had a hard time keeping up with them. So did I!:)

3. Lovely! Birds to me are especially difficult to shoot....

...with a camera.

My neighbor is INCREDIBLY good at birds.

It has a nice simple composition with a great catch of stillness and motion blur.

7. I think the first one is my fave, though they are all very appealing.

It's neat how the left gull in the second shot appears to be walking on the water, and how in the third one, two of the birds, because they are caught with their wings at the top of their flapping, with their feet seemingly dangling, look like they're hanging suspended.


It's hard to make out what's happening with bird in the lower left corner of the last shot. He looks like he's just a wing and two feet. :D

I really like the 3rd one. I like gulls...except in Stephen King novels.

10. When I was going to college

I and a couple of friends used to park at the park next to the college, which took us past the lake. We would buy bags of oyster crackers and have a gull party. Oyster crackers sail really well and the gulls competed to catch them in mid air. Great fun after a hard day hitting the books.
