and for those who asked about "that round thing..."

It's a sculpture in the sculpture garden/sculpture trail at the Nassau County Museum on Long Island NY. There is an arboretum that has many wonderful sculptures peppered throughout the 150 acres. Neat place.

I almost feel like retroactively giving Autumn Reflections a Host's Award in last month's ("Black") contest as well. :wow:

(Now, if you'd only entered it in that contest...)

Think about it -- while your photo was notable for the lovely foliage of nature, all of it was almost a frame for the black human-made object in the center. That was the spot to which my eye kept being drawn. Although your photo succeeds admirably as an autumn color shot, it does just as well as an example of creative use of black. If your photo had appeared earlier (say, in last year's seasonal contest), I would have pointed to it during the build-up to last month's submissions as a perfect example of making something black the center of interest.

I knew this did well in the first round and was doing well in the finals, but was slipping in the last day or two.

But hey, I was cool with that. There was a lot of good photos competing.

Dawn's Early Light is quite beautiful. Well deserved recognition. Can't find a fault with it even if I put on my old guy hat and get in touch with my grumpy side. All the photos were very good. Autumns Reflections might have been my vote (if I voted) because I liked that it looked like a composite but it wasn't.
