I just scanned these...I took them in Hawaii during the 1991 eclipse.

3. The first photo shows a couple of things:

1. That picture was taken on the west coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

2. The sun was already partially eclipsed as it came up over the mountains.

There weren't enough rental cars to go around that day. Some people without cars were stuck in places where it was overcast. Others were afraid to get in their cars and drive to less cloudy locations, because it had been widely predicted that the traffic would be so bad that nobody could get anywhere. In fact, traffic was light, and the sky was clear in places south of Kailua-Kona.
